Ok so my tribe has lost 7 members in the last few hours..yet my population still says 99....and everytime i try to make some babies..it tells me the housing cant accomodate more people??? Shouldnt the # go down once people die?

The maximum population depends on four things.

the number of huts. If you have all three, you have a max population of 90.
finished collections. Each completed collection adds five villagers to the maximum, plus another five if you've completed both, making a possible maximum of 105,
converted heathens. Any converted heathens are added even if the maximum would be exceeded, although it's only temporary: when someone dies, they are not replaced.
multiple births. If the population falls below the maximum and a mother has twins or triplets the population might go above the maximum by one or two. As with the heathens, that is only temporary.
