What a "horrible" experience to go thru and the "price to pay" for the beauty and love of nature and the enrichment it would have had on the inhabitants lives "if" it was "allowed".
"If allowed", this would had made the inhabitants stronger in their beliefs that they could "combined" their knowledge of nature and magic and make their lives more "beneficial" while "spreading" the "word" to the other inhabitants on the other sides of the island. I hope the Chief's daughter is found on the other sides of the island and is the "ringleader" in getting "all" sides together and living in "harmony" with "nature" and "magic".

That being said, I wonder how long ago the split happened since it was apparently unknown to the villagers that discovered it.

It's possible that it happened on a different side of the island and the news hadn't reached that group yet.
