And take away the interest on the money. Nobody gets that high a rate in real life !!

I reckon that there should pershaps be a sliding scale for the interest. At the beginning 10% per day is fine, but it should be reduced to almost nothing as the game goes on. At the start, the family might have, say, $500, and the $50 interest is useful. After several generations they might have $5,000,000 and so "earn" interest of $500,000, which is far more than any family can get through working.
There are of course no whole-room upgrades for the bathroom, the laundry room, and living room, but there are individual items that can be bought, like the scales and heated towel rail, the treadmill, the flat-screen TV, etc. In addition there are lots of user-created mods that can be used.
