That's it! Researching Environment helps rarer species to survive and also lets most of the magic fish survive without vitamins and/or growth hormone. You can't stay at level 1 forever, and even if you are at lvl 2 you will be struggling in earning enough money for vitamins and/or growth hormone. lvl 3 is certainly the best to allow the fish to survive. Loads of gh and vitamins are even more expensive than researching lvl 3 itself!
