I'm having a hard time trying to decide which, if any, of the common fish to keep.

IOW I bred a gold goldbulb, so do I need to keep the 2 common fish that made the gold bulb or just keep a breeding pair of goldbulbs?

I'm really trying to fiqure out how to determine which fish to keep not knowing if you'll need them in the future.

Any tips or hints on how to manage the overwhelming number of fish?

Thanks

What I do because of course the goldbulbs are so profitable I keep a greenfin shark and a pink spotanus.I first buy another tank after I have saved up $400 then i just wind up breeding goldbulbs for awhile in the tank to save up all of the moola.

There is no simple answer as to which fish to keep. There are so many possible fish in the game that it would take a LOT more tanks than you have to hold them all. You can use all three of your tanks for breeding, but any adults you have in your selling tank will be for sale, so you have to be careful when you hit the "Sell Fish" button that there aren't any fish you want to keep in there.

The good news is that there are many, many ways to breed each of the possible fish, including all of the Magic Fish. Taking a systematic approach to your breeding cuts down the stress of having to sell off a bunch of fish because your tanks are full. One approach is to keep a fish that interests you (e.g. a Spotanus), and breed it with each of the other fish in the tank. Once the babies are born, sell all of the parents except the Spotanus and breed it with the new fish once they grow up. If you keep doing that, you'll soon have some fish you've never seen before.

Many of us have kept track of our breeding results as a way of managing the large number of fish, using everything from simple spreadsheets to impressive databases. It's the only way I found to manage all of those fish!

Hmm.. fishies... Well, the goldbulbs are certainly a good start, and both anon and Barbara have excellent ideas I wish I could remember which fish I bred last time I restarted... I think it was a spotanus, but I can't remember what fin type... maybe it was orange... worth a bit more than the golden goldbulb, as far as I can recall. Anywho, you can either keep breeding the fish you used to get the goldbulb, or keep a pair of goldbulbs themselves. I would do the latter, because you can breed them all together to get a tank-full of goldbulbs, and then sell all but two, versus getting only two fish at a time from your original breeding pair ^_^

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I like the idea of picking a fish and exploring the breeding possibilities. Knowing that there are many ways to get each fish type is encouraging.

So selling off most of your 'founding' fish isn't a problem?
IOW, if you keep only the spotanus, explore the possibilites, then want to do the same with another fish, do you just buy more common eggs in hopes of getting some of your original species.

I think you can breed to get the common fish can't you?

Thanks again,
Janet (who is becoming very obsessed with this game-

The only fish that I know of that you have to get from eggs is the Spotanus. The same is true of the Twin-Fin fin type. All of the other fish and fins can be found by cross-breeding.

Please excuse posting to this old thread, but it was recently mentioned in another... (please split this off if you feel it should start a new thread.)

The Silky fin type and Shark body type can only be produced from eggs (unless you already have one in your tanks.) i.e. a Silky and Tiger will make another Silky, or a Shark and a Catfish will make another Shark, but you need one to start with.

I've also determined that starting with a twin-fin and silky, you can produce every other fin type (assuming the proper environment) within four generations.

Starting with a Spotanus and Shark it takes five generations to produce all of the body types.

I haven't yet determined the mininum number of generations to produce any specific species...
