Hello,
I was on my 22nd generation and the parents would never have any kids. The husband died first age 57, the wife was 63. I had went away from the game and when I returned, it asked if I wanted to restart the game and I said no. When I went in all the previous generations was gone and it started over as new. I had collected all the items, had all but one up grade, and made all the improvements. It makes sense that since there were no kids, that there could not be a next generation and I was wondering if what happen would happen but wondered it all the up grades would remain. HELP!
Thanks

I don't have an answer as to what might happen, but I had the game end that way for me once too. It is frustrating. Sorry it happened to you. frown

Thanks for responding so quickly. It is frustrating and sorry it happened to you also. It just doesn't seem fair. Had you ever asked the question in the forum before? Wouldn't mind a new family but to have to start all over for the collections and upgrading and improvements. Makes me not want to even play the game.

Thanks again,

Sorry to hear about you loosing your game!
LadyCFII has in the past helped players recover deleted games. My advise is, wait and hear if LadyCFII or others can help you recover the game! In the meantime check out: "Support and FAQ"

Good luck!

It is sad when that happens, but the game will end when a family has nobody to begin the next generation and inherit the house. Unfortunately, there may be no way to recover from this situation, depending upon what has taken place since the last generation died. Ideally, you would be able to restore a savegame file from an earlier backup. so that you could go back to an earlier time in the game when it was still possible to produce or adopt a child.

If you don't have a backup, there is still a possibility that you could recover the game and at least open it again, although you may not be able to continue playing it if the family is no longer living. The procedure for that can be found here.

Thanks for you respond. I did try to go back and do a restore and recovery to a earlier time, but it didn't work. I got a post from LadyCEII. Not sure if I can restore the game but she told me where to go look.

Thanks again.

Thanks for responding. I don't have a back-up that I'm aware of. I did try to do a restore to an earlier time on my computer but it didn't work. It started with a new person and everything new. I try the information that you gave me and will let you know what happens.

Thanks again,

Hello LadyCFII.
I got the instructions. Went to my documents. Based on #4 to verify that the savegame file for the deleted player is no longer present (example; 1st slot has not been deleted, there should be no file names Virtual Families1.ldw) I understand how to do what the instructions say but none of my games were deleted. Save games files VF1-VF5 are all there and so are the backup VF21-VF25.

It just stared the VF1 over with a new person.

Not quite sure how to make the change.

It looks like it may happen to another games because the parents are refusing to have children even with giving the wife the shot.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, that was what I expected to happen, since the game will start over when a family with no children reaches the end of a generation. The only other way to restore a lost game is if you have a backup of your computer from an earlier time or if you preserved savegame files from an earlier time (for example, by using this procedure).

Thanks again Barbara. I read the procedures and think I will just let it go. It seems like too much work for a game. I have four other games running and on the 21st generation on one of them. I'll see how it goes. Will let you know if this happens again. I will just start them trying to have babies as soon as the game starts and see what happens. I just hate that I lost the upgrades, improvements, and collection.
Thanks again for responding.

You may have already thought about this when the game was being created.
One of the things I thought might happen is that the game would allow you to pick someone from a previous generation to adopt. That may be something that could be added to any future VF games. Just thought I'd share my idea.
Thanks again

Have a blessed week.

Are you serious? If I have to start over, I'm just deleting the game. I figured you would just pick a different family member. I've been playing for months to lose everything? So frustrating! I'll NEVER get all the collectibles in ANY game. frown

There is a very simple way to prevent 'losing' the game, and that's to make sure that you back up your savegame files at the beginning of each generation. You can see how to back them up here. That way, if the 'unthinkable' happens and a generation can't continue, you can restore the savegame file and replay that generation without having to start completely over. laugh
