Village Sim for Desktop will be called Virtual Villagers! It has not been easy to commit to a new name, but we felt it was necessary for various reasons. We chose this name because it represents what the game is really about -- the Villagers themselves. The forums will show both names to try to reduce confusion. On a side-note, we are more than 90% done, we are adding new puzzles, and beta is fast approaching. We are definitely having fun working on this one, and we hope you guys have even more fun playing it! Comments are welcome.

I quite like the new name. I can imagine that the 'Sim' bit might have got you into some hot water from EA/Maxis so in the circumstances it's understandable that you had to make the change.
Of course you could always have taken a leaf out of the Japanese book of doing things (Pokemon=Pocket Monster and Famicom = Family Computer) and called it Vim...

You must apply and be selected as a beta tester in order to participate in a beta test. We are currently reworking our process for beta tester selection, so I'll just send you a PM with some instructions about how to apply to be a tester.
Are you guys still accepting beta testers? I would be happy to help.

We never stop accepting applications for beta testers! Until we get the new process in place, anyone who wishes to apply to become a beta tester should send me a Private Message. That way we don't fill up this thread with requests!
Since you asked here, I'll send you a PM with the details of how to apply.
Ok thanks!

The game is really getting close now! We're having so much fun with it and it is running great on both PC and Mac. We are looking forward to starting beta, likely very early next week.
More announcements about V V are coming soon, maybe even a release date.

Can't wait

We are in beta now and it is going very well. The game has literally not crashed for anyone (knock on wood!), and everyone seems to be enjoying it so far.
I'll keep ya posted here!

Having never played the Palm version, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I bought Virtual Villagers today and am already obsessed. I think people are avoiding my office now after hearing me mutter, "Research faster, Mamba!" several times.
So is it out now then? If not is there a date set for release?

I also downloaded it from Bigfish Games. And really enjoy it so far. One question (so far): There is an option to update the score via the Internet, i.e. to check the score vs. the other players, however when using this option it does seem to work and I'm presented with a question whether I'm connecting to the Internet (which of course I am). Just wondering if this option to check/update score vs. other players actually works.

It should be working, you might want to check your firewall settings. I have a feeling it is stopping you. Just a guess.

We will make our full announcements here today/tomorrow, and notify the people who have requested to be notified the second it goes live.
Big Fish has negotiated a few perks for themselves for being our publisher and one is that they get to invite a few people to a prerelease of the game about 24hrs before it comes out.

The high scores page doesn't work yet. We are working on this as fast as we can.

Ok. The high scores page works. Here is the link: http://www.ldwsoftware.com/vv_win_scores/index.phpWe are ordering the scores by number of babies. Lets see if this works and if you are all happy with this. I will probably try to add a few more stats in there.

Upon reviewing the stat page, can I through out some comments? Thanks! Since population can only go to 92, I’m not sure it means that much to be on the leader board, if you know what I mean. I would like to see puzzles solved, crabs caught and mushrooms picked as well. If you could only add one, I would go with mushrooms, since it is not all that easy to get them. What do you think?

Also, I have several spots under "Village Idiot Yahooooie". I've only used that name in one file (Build3), so I'm not sure why it is listed several places. You might want to take a look at that.

We will definitely play around with the leaderboard. It's tricky thing to apply this kind of game to a leaderboard since there is no one true 'score'.

I am so in love with this game that I paid full price for it from Reflexive instead of waiting till I could get it free with my Game Pass from Real Arcade.

Just got the full version and hooked allready. But only getting few puzzles done and then the little peeps die on me. Just before I get to the point where I get enough tech points to go to level 3 farming grmbl*&@#! Very frustrating! (I'm loving it!)

I've completed the game but I still love messing with the little guys. Why not have a high score based on how fast you can complete all the puzzles (preferably on hard). That would give those of us who have finished a new challenge.

I have too, I am however keeping my game running just to see what happens. It is fun to go back in to a new game and challenge to do something different. I love this game! Can't wait for VV 2!!!

VERY COOL!!! I just today (9-7-06) logged on after being gone for a while and what a cool surprise: Virtual Villagers !! I guess now that I'm already long-since hooked on VilageSim, there's no point in resisting VV... Hey though, any chance of a discount for folks who have registered VS in the last 12 or 18 months please-please??? Worth the extra 20 clams one way or the other !!! ;o) -steve

Carla posted about that early this year. I know that people who signed up to be notified about Virtual Villagers received emails regarding discounts, etc. I'm guessing that you didn't get one of those emails, so filling out a support form is probably your best option.
