in most of the screenshots here, the furniture and rooms look really cool and different from the level 3 upgrades. there's even pet bowls and stuff...how did you get those?

I've bought all the upgrades so does those stuff come after playing for a really long time? same with the lovely pink background showing the generations?

No these are mods that are added to the game that are made by users on the forums. In the forum list there is a forum for mods and how to add them I think.
