Where is your statue, Red-dragomn1? Is it near the top of the path?

If so, then you might try dropping your chief lower on the path. Near the top of the path, it is harder to drop the workers in the correct place. You'll need lots of builders

I tried dropping him everywhere around the statue and he walks away as if there was no statue on the path at all. Even when you click on the statue it doesnt tell you how much time is left until completion.

Wasn't there a glitch in one of the versions of the game where the chief stops directing? I don't know if it pertains to your sitch or not, but maybe you should check which version you have, and update it if needed.

It is worth reading this sticky post above that covers the subject. The latest version is 1.00.51, by the way. If you have an earlier version you should upgrade. To check the version look at the bottom left-hand corner of the menu screen.
