Well, that depends. The farm is a complicated thing, and can be affected by many different factors resulting from game play styles. I won't divulge all of the inner workings of the farm here, but I can offer some general tips:

Changing game speed and pausing the game for long periods of time, to name two things, can influence the crop cycles in ways that create stress for the person holding the stylus.

Also, in general, it's a bad idea to switch from a slower game speed to a faster game speed while the farm is empty. And, finally, if your peeps are ever in a food crisis before you have fishing, switching the game back to slow speed until the crops appear can help the villagers survive.

Well Food popped up about the same time i hit 50,000, 3 people died (all masters dangit) and everyone is weakened. Hopefully with food they will now start to get better but i fear more will die before they heal.

You cannot heal a weakened player i take it since it says embracing when you try?

I went through the same thing (I had over 3000 in food and they went through it very very fast). Thereafter had like three years of famine where they ran out of food constantly. They had to be monitored closely to keep them working on productive stuff and during crop season everyone harvest as fast as possible (if you drag them instead of letting them walk, they harvest more) PLUS forage until the berries ran out. I had to change their skills back and forth to the needed focus (food sometimes, research sometimes). They still ran out of food each year: several got very weakened plus two of my oldsters died, but they managed to get enough tech points to finally buy level 3. Thereafter all the weakened people got healthy again, except the oldsters who still hung in about 4 more years but then died. The game just seems to build this crisis in unless you save up and spend all your points on harvesting research. As others have noted, the safest way to play the game is to do that first. I noticed that putting the game on SLOW and going to sleep will generally give you enough points in the AM to buy the level you need, with SOME villagers still alive. The weakened ones can hang on quite a long time, and even when they go RED they can still reproduce! I had one elderly red give birth to two children in her 60's. In fact, they seem healthier when pregnant. After you get food back, keep the weakened ones eating. Health improves if they switch jobs occasionally, and farming seems very good for their health.

Doctors can treat only the villagers who are actually "Sick."

You might want to check out this post, which contains some general (non-spoiler) tips on Village Sim.

As Barbra pointed out, the only time Dr. will do any good is if they are sick. They cannot improve a villagers health bar.

Well i seem to be somewhat back on track. Lost 3 people, but i got all 3 of my weak women pregnant and one im waiting a couple years cause she is too young. But now i have fishing and food is building up nicely, up to 600 already and a crop. *phew* im glad it wasnt any worse! Im going to start popping babies out and making farmers out of everyone living cept a couple researchers. Then when the kids grow up they can all research and i shall proceed. I think i have all the puzzles unlocked that i can do at the moment. I have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Thanks for all the help.

Ok well everything is on track now. Boy that fishing realy does help. when i play on the next difficulty i will definately get fishing before i go over 12. I have over 2000 food again and 4 preg women, up to almost 20 people now, things are really cruising now. Also there was a "special fish" found that did "something" (dont want to spoil it) in my lagoon that was pretty cool. Glad i havent had any bad events yet other than a spunky monkey that killed someone. well hope i wasnt annoying you will be hearing a lot from me i like to be active i wish other people talked more. Its fun to share progress with people. anyone wanna trade hints or just chat about their running game?

On a side note need a beta tester for windows version . I volunteer if you do.

Happy villaging
