Is there any way to turn out some of the house lights at night? I think the lights keep waking up the kids. With 6 of them they all need their rest. DD

Hi DD! Welcome to the forums The lights don't wake up the kids, the only thing that wakes them up is if you open up their game during a late hour at night. When you keep the game closed at night, that's when they get their sleep It is possible to take away some of the lights though with a game modification, you just need to let us know which ones you'd like to be turned off.

It's a little complicated, but in the game's Images folder found in "Program Files" on windows, there are a bunch of image files that are used to create the lights. If you changed some of these to be invisible, the lights will not show up on the game. These files are named "LightSourceMask100.png" with the "100" changing in each file depending on the size of the light.
The tricky part is the game does not let you turn off each individual light.. For example, if you take away the light over the living room, most of the other big lights illuminating the game will go away too.
It would take some experimenting, but I'm sure we could do something about some of the lights like the little ones around the bedroom lamps or something. If you're not sure how to do this with an image editor, one of our modders can try it for you and give you the modified game files.
Also need to make sure you have access to the Images folder, there can be issues with this for Mac users.

You might not have access to it depending on where you bought the game from. If you do have access to it, you'd find it here: * Open Finder and navigate to the game folder for Virtual Families (it is placed on the desktop by default, but you may have moved it to Applications or another location) * Open the Virtual Families folder * Right-click (ctrl-click) on the Virtual Families application icon and click Show Package Contents * Open the Contents folder, then the Resources folder, then open the Images folder

Within the game itself, the lights do not wake up or keep up any peep in the house. Your family members will normally only sleep for one sleep-cycle at a time. Each cycle is about 5-10 mins long. Depending on how low their Energy bar is when they wake up, the child (or adult peep) may still be tired and either go take a nap, go back to bed, or do something relaxing. If they are well enough rested (or wide awake) you won't be able to put them back to bed. For more information on sleep habits, please check out these helpful threads: won't sleep, how much time does it take for a family to get well rested?, Can't make them stay asleep, and of course in extreme cases, Tired/Exhausted.

Hi DDD! I have a mac too I have found that the lights are just used to help you see your way around the house when it is dark, they don't actually wake up the peeps. If you don't like the lights you can of course delete the light files. But they don't do any harm. (If your peeps wake up just drag them back to their bed and they will say "going to bed." Don't put them on the couch though for "taking a nap" as I'm not sure that has as much of an effect for replenishing energy.) But the best option is not to open the game when it's night in your time zone as they will be sleeping as well. They need a full nights sleep to be rested in the morning. As for the images folder, it's inside the VirtualFamilies.app package, as Lyssaria said; VirtualFamilies/Contents/Resources/images is where you would find it. But make sure you back up the images folder before implementing any mods.
