I am new here. I did a search and did not find my topic, so if it is covered already, please forgive me. My first family started with Antonio and Regina. They worked very hard and improved the house and built up savings. I chose Giorgio to inherit after Antonio died. He and his wife Conchetta have also worked hard and with level 2 workrooms. But they now have less than when Giorgio inherited, not due to any high living style, but to tax collection gone wild. It keeps popping up over and over again. It comes more than once in their year, and doesn't take a percentage of earnings, but of savings. It has been exceeding what they have earned since the last collection, and is eating away at Antonio's savings now. Is this family doomed to poverty? Is there any way to stop this? I do not want to delete my little family. I am very attached to them. I was so very upset when Antonio died at 61. I couldn't understand that. My villagers with less medical care available lived into thir 70"s at best level. In another family Ethelwald died at 65 and his wife Rebecca at 64, leaving their teenage daughter all alone.. I had an air purifier, treadmill, encouraged drinking...But I must have failed somewhere. Now Giogio is in his 40's and graying and balding as his father did. I hope he doesn't die even younger! With all this tax trouble it would be no wonder! Is there anything I can do to save this family from poverty? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

It has happened about 9 or 10 times to that one family. I am pretty frugal. Well, in real life, very frugal. In the game, I am a little bit more lenient, giving some treats and such. But I keep al non-nursing adults working consistently, and try not to, but have been known to yank exhausted kids out of bed for a collectible when money was tight.

Well, this is a moot subject now, since I accidentally deleted all my families while I was cleaning out old virtual villager folders. Can my families be saved to disk? I was so upset with myself.

Sorry petra! frown There are two sections of LDW's FAQ section on their website that would be of interest to you.

Windows:
Backing up a savegame file
Making a CD Backup

You can put the save game files on the CD instead of the setup file they suggested, or you can put both on there! You can also copy the entire Program Files folder if you wanted to run the game off of a CD as well.

If you're running a Mac, I'm not sure how you can write to CDs but you would be doing the same thing essentially.

That's a bummer petralamb. I hope you start up some new families. smile I have 2 backups, one in a folder outside of the Virtual Families game and another on a USB Memory Stick/Flash Drive. I update the files at least once a week now. That way I don't have to worry about "What if's... ?"
