OK, I'm a sentimental fool and this is my first post here but my very first little person passed away. I opened the game to see her waving at me and then she was gone. About 15 seconds later, the youngest of the 3 kids went off to college. Now dad is moping around the house, very depressed and I don't know what to do for him.

I got the notification that I could start a new generation but it doesn't seem right to boot dad out when he's so depressed.

Any thoughts. Should I keep dad around until he passes too? I got him a dog but that hasn't helped at all yet.

And yes... I want to cry for them. frown

frown sorry for your loss! It never is easy to deal with them passing for the first time, and for some people it never does get easy. I like to keep the remaining parent behind in the house as usually they get happy again before the day is over.

There was a topic here and here about depressed little people.

To sum everything up, keep his fridge well-stocked, praise him two times if he does something good like exercise.. candy and fruit are great for praising as well to raise happiness. Perfume and cologne will raise his happiness as well, the perfume being more effective on a male's happiness. House upgrades will also raise happiness, but if you're just in the first generation you should probably save your money first as much as you can for a few generations in case anyone gets ill. The more money you save, the more money you get in interest so the rich get richer!

You won't see his happiness bar raise too significantly in a short amount of time depending on how you're raising it. Just give it a day for him to think about his wife and get happy again. smile

If he does misbehave, try to avoid scolding them or using the salty candy. Imported candy might also make them more sad, the result is random.

Best of luck with your little family smile

virtualparent your little dad will be alright before the day is over. They're happiness does improve a bit at a time as Lyssaria said. Try to praise him often and keep him fed. They usually don't live long after their mate dies, so I always take care of them until they do. I don't have the heart to boot them out, as you say, either. smile Good luck with your next generation. Oh, and don't feel like a fool for crying...I did that when my first one died also and even since when one dies that is a favorite.

I cried too when my first peep died. And I cried when I lost my first little 4 year old. It does get a little easier but I still get a little blue. I don't ever boot mom or dad out. I let them live out their lives in their house. But like Lewanda said, they don't live too much longer without the other. Just like in real life. You can always come here and shed a tear because we have all shed a few ourselves. Plus we are really nice and fun! lol

Thank you everyone!

Dad has survived the day, he's happier now. He works out a lot so I'm thinking he may live a long time LOL. However, I woke up this morning and found my 2nd family (I can't have just one, I have 5)... anyway, the parents both passed at the same time and left behind the two youngest kids. One of them left for college this evening and the other is now 18 and is still at home. Will he leave for college or just stay in the house?

Thanks everyone, I can't believe how attached to all of my families. smile

Aw, I'm sorry Sweetie. It's really hard when they go together that way. Your kid at home will leave for college between the age of 18 and 19 Sweetheart. You can wait for him to leave or start a new generation by hitting the new generation button in the family screen. I've rarely ever started one before all family members have left the house empty, though there is nothing wrong with doing it.

I get attached to mine too. smile I think it makes us take care of them better.

I felt really sad when I saw both parents pass at the same time for the first time.. hasn't happened again since then, but I do worry about it each time I open the game when my peeps get older >_<

Best of luck with your new generation.. whether you decide to let him stay until he leaves for college, or give him a head start in his studies! grin

I've had more pass together than not Lys. But when one does survive their mate they usually die very soon afterward. I stayed in the game to watch Rain, and she lived a bit more than half an hour after baldone passed away. She was working when it happened.

The most I've seen someone outlive their spouse was for 7 VF years, 24 hours our time.. of course I wasn't sitting there watching him constantly for those 24 hours smile I just happened to sign on and while he was preparing his meal he passed on and joined his wife.

I've had them live for a day and even longer, but for the most part they go within a couple of hours after their spouse. I guess they die of a broken heart. frown
