When I started my first family, I:

• thought the TV would instantly recharge their happiness.
• believed the action "Checking the Outfit" would allow me to change their clothes with a nifty outfit screen.
• did not allow any children to do adult tasks like heating up food in case they might pass away in an accident
• changed my time to one year later just to see what happens.. not recommended at all!
• tried clicking on one of them 20+ times to see if they'll jump and say "hey!" to me
• tried many times to drag my peeps onto that mailbox since it indicates that there is mail! This worried me because I thought there might be bills in there.

I was thinking about when I first got my game and I've had some very amusing moments Can any of you recall some funny things you did or thought about the game when you first started it?

Here are mine:

1. Thought the MAIL ICON was something to click and open the message, clicked 100 times and nothing.
2. Did not let kids watch tv, play video games, browse the internet or babysit until 10 years of age.
3. Ran the cat away
4. Dropped the kids on the compute or in the kitchen to work, and they didn't so I used the red glove
5. Thought I could chat w/ characters and send them emails
6. Tried to reply on an email sent to me from a person on vf
7. Sped time up 30 years and my family was gone
8. Tried to get a kid to run away and come back
9. ThoughtI was going to get to watch tv too so I clicked the tv and family jumped up and said HEY!!!
10. Have made vf people mad by giving them salty candies.
11. Tried to weigh them fter giving em tons of money
12. Put em' on treadmill expecting an energy boost or a hunger decrease or lose weight

Lol! I didn't even think of trying #1 but that does make sense same thing with watching the TV and replying to their e-mails.

I've always been too chicken to try the imported candy thinking it'll make them sick or something but the salty candies I've used many times

The imported candy has the same effect as either a delicious/fruit/mint/cinnamon/licorice candy or a salty candy. It's pretty random which one, though. In other words, it either praises them or punishes them. Not recommended to use.

Imported candy can also make them sick. As my luck would have it, it's done that to me 6 out of 10 times. I don't use it any more. lol

I used to praise kids for all kinds of things, just because I thought it was cute. (Like Playing Mommy)

I dropped someone outside the gate about a dozen times trying to see if they would open it.

Held a peep by the head and dragged them around the map, pixel by pixel, watching for the text to tell me what they saw. lol

I expected the magic fish picture to give them a health boost, make them more likely to have multiples, or some other nifty thing, when they stopped to "admire" it. Probably because I had been playing fish tycoon.

Tried repeatedly to figure out how to use the light bulb in the laundry room to fix the hallway light.

Most of the time when I give them the imported candy, they have a sudden urge to run to the bathroom. I don't use it anymore as its results are so unpredictable.

I'm glad I never touched that imported candy! I don't like to gamble on my peeps lol!

BB, I can understand the light bulb part! I have stared at that broken light in the hallway for many hours by now wondering why it will not light.

Once I set my clock ahead a few hours to make a baby be born sooner, it worked fine and jumped the time ahead but when I set it back to where it was the house instantly filled with socks, wrappers, dirt, and weeds... I'm not doing that anymore! :P

Yeah, that's what happened to me too VFMF! We're lucky nothing worse happened because it could really damage our game and some people's computers. >_<

I thought that if I gave an 18-y/o a career book or put them at a workplace, they'd find a job, and was scared my 1st kid would be lazy and not have a job when she left for college.

Lol I can see myself thinking the same thing about the career book.

For a while I thought that my gate was jammed shut and I need to fix it and open it like the shed or something.. I assumed that if it were open, they'd be able to go out and visit friends or have friends come over I guess the teens get their social kick out of chatting online! Sounds like someone I know

What a fun thread, Lyssaria. Some of the 'first time' actions had me laughing aloud.
I first tried the 60 minute freebie and gave up because I thought the kitchen was on fire and nothing I did would put it
out. Now, seasoned player that I am :), realize it is the steam
rising from the stove and plates.
That almost caused me not to give VF another chance, but thanks
to Shockwave I did. And then bought from LDW...they deserve the
dollars!
And when I read the description of game play I, too, thought we would be able to exchange e-mails with our peeps. Obviously was sure that the LDW developers were super-human technos.

Lol! I get paranoid about that steam coming off of the food too! I once thought my garbage can caught on fire because of the plate near it.

By coincidence both my first-ever peeps had jobs involving working in the office. I didn't realise there was anywhere else they could work, and when the second generation had jobs based in the kitchen or workshop I was puzzled when they wouldn't work.

I managed to have office workers for the first three generations so you could imagine my surprise to find kitchen and workshop careers after that.. I already thought I was an expert of the game!

That must've been really frustrating though, thinking they would not work!

When I first started playing I thought that I could use the red glove on the cat to make him stop scratching the couch
I thought that when the tutorial said "they're trying to make a baby, they will have privacy" I was supposed to close the game, which I did... surprise, no baby
I worried that if I punished a mother with a baby, the baby would be punished too, so I never punished a mother with a baby... i still don't :P
I thought that it was weird when they were "admiring the magic fish" when they had no fishtank XD (it turned out to be a painting)

Lol! VFMF, I loved the bit about the privacy I can definitely understand that It certainly isn't too private with us looking on.

I thought my game was broken because once the kids were age 14, i couldnt figure out why they wouldnt work somewhere. (didnt relize only the adults worked)
I bought all the career magizines and gave them to my peeps to read, regardless of their occupation because i was hoping they would become skilled in more then one area
couldnt figure out why my peeps were so hungry since there were 5 spaces of grocerys sitting in my toolbar. i didnt relize i actually had to give them the grocerys lol

Lol, when I first saw the career magazines I didn't know I was supposed to use them on our peeps I'd try to put it on their magazine stash on the table.

Same thing with the movies, I'd use them on the TV! I even looked for a DVD player or VCR to try clicking on next.

that imported candy gives my peeps instant stomachaches! Horrifying to see them clutch their stomachs and sit down suddenly from your trying to praise them.
