She'll come home, but you have to choose her to inherit the house with the New Generation button on the family tree.

When one of the parents pass away, it brings you to the family tree screen with the unlocked "New Generation" button. This button will make any other parents move out of the house and allow you to choose one of the children to take over the house as Krystal has posted.

Some people prefer to wait until both parents have passed away and all the children are grown up and in college like you have.

Sometimes, I just record into my fam tree screen that the surviving parent moved out to a place with warmer climate (Florida) and I start a new generation.
