So, how does this affect VF when I buy groceries?

The UK Food Standards Agency's 'Independant Organic Review' results were just released, and the BBC rushed to publish the findings in the shockingly titled article, 'No Health Benefits to Organic Food.' From the article, 'There is little difference in nutritional value and no evidence of any extra health benefits from eating organic produce, UK researchers found.

There have been a lot of topics floating around about the organic food in the game and it seems they do help the families remain healthier and live longer. smile

If money is too tight in your family, it helps to use both organics and the regular groceries.

That's a very interesting piece of information regarding the UK Food Standards Agency's review, thanks for sharing that!

Perhaps Arthur should bring out a new version of the game that removes any benefits for organic food for the peeps. wink

Y'know I think I agree with that arnie. Whether or not the organics range makes any difference is neither here nor there. I have deliberately given one of my families only organics and the other bog-standard groceries. Now given for average life expectancies, career types & family size etc., I cannot see any difference at all.

Both of the mom/dad peeps in BOTH families lived to be between 63 & 67 the eldest being on the NON organics side, and both had the odd varying short lived illnesses.

I'm not suggesting there is no truth in the organics providing better health benefits etc., only that I personally have seen no proof of that - as yet. smile

I tried the same experiment and did not see a difference in life length either. However, the family with the regular groceries seemed to have more illnesses over all.

It's difficult to test whether the organics will help a family or not unless you try to give a family organics, see how long they live then use a backup from when the adult got married and try feeding them plain groceries to see the difference. Keep in mind that some things may interfere with this such as illness, although if there are more illnesses without the use of organics, that could be another theory.

I'm not sure how the natural death age is determined for our peeps I'm just guessing that each person will be assigned that number once they appear in the game.

If I'm not mistaken, the organics do provide 100 more units of food than the regular groceries but the cost of the groceries is still higher than buying two regular bags of groceries which makes up for the units.

It's all up to you I guess! I like to believe that I'm lengthening the lifespan of my peeps and since I'm well into my 6th generation, I can afford the organics. smile

If I have plenty of money in the family I buy all organic... If money is tight I don't. That is how I pick buying organic or not.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that you get 150 units of food when you buy regular food and 250 when you buy organics.

Take the bread for example: Regular bread is 13.3 cents per unit. When the organic bread is on sale, it's 8 per unit! I stock up!

I do as Dr. Dan does, choose groceries according to finances available. However, if any food is on sale, I get it, esp if it is a newer family with less money and some organic food goes on sale. That would be the only time they get "the good stuff" until their bank account increases.

I completed my experiment on organics vs regular groceries and the results are pretty interesting. smile Most significantly, my peep lasted 7 years longer with organic food.

I'll post it tomorrow, still lots of work to do with putting it all together in a topic.
