What do you mean that your computer shuts down? Do you mean it turns itself off?

Can you tell me more about your computer? How old is it? What are the system specifications? The game doesn't have the ability to cause a computer to turn off, but if the computer is overheating, it could very well shut down. You may need to have it checked out by a computer technician to make sure that everything is working properly.

Unfortunately, there is no good way for us to determine why your computer might be shutting down. Yours is the only report that we have seen of this sort of thing happening, and it's likely caused by a unique situation on your computer, such as an intermittent hardware problem, that it causing it to shut down. It might still be a good idea for you to have it checked out by a competent computer technician.

I have had some problems with VF and just yesterday with Plant Tycoon ( which I hadn't played for over a year). In both cases I was playing and suddenly I was looking at my desktop; no error messages, no freezing or crashing of my computer. In the case of Virtual Families I just restarted it without problem ( except that their new baby was wiped out!) but more ominously with Plant Tycoon I could not get it to restart at all; again no error messages, just nothing. I uninstalled it and was about to go to the Big Fish Games site to re-download it when I had a major ( and ongoing) problem with Internet Explorer 8 after I downloaded that. I only got here today with a Safari browser. VF works fine today and I'm off again to get back PT.

Just wanted to let you know that there are occasional problems (BTW, it has never happened to any of my 3 VV games).

I have Vista on my laptop too and now had it crash when playing VV. It keeps crashing to the dreaded blue screen of death frown and pretty much can't use it unless it is in safe mode

The blue screen of death (BSOD) is typically due to a problem with a driver or the computer's hardware. It's also possible for malware to interfere with proper computer operation.

You are able to run in safe mode (which is a very basic diagnostic environment) because whatever is causing the BSOD hasn't been loaded in safe mode. Sometimes going back to a previous restore point will help, but these kinds of system problems usually require the computer to be examined by a computer expert.
