Career progress loss

I'm sorry if this has already been addressed in another post but I couldn't come up with anything in my search.
I'd like to know how common it is to get an email saying that one of your people has been accused of doing something wrong and therefore their career progress is invalid and being reset to the beginning of the current level. I was stunned (and POed) when this just happened but at least the person was only at a lower level (3 I think). I'm worried that it's going to happen at higher career levels and destroy potentially days of work.

As far as I know, all of the events are random.. I'm not sure what the odds are of getting that event, but someone once suggested that if you want to avoid the loss from it you can.. Exit the game before pressing anything on the e-mail, restart the game and it takes the event away. I haven't ever tried this myself, but I'll give it a shot next time I get a bad e-mail message.

It does seem to be random, but as with all random events, luck seems to play into it too. It seems as though the same person gets hit with that email time and time again. I have gotten into the habit of checking my people's progress before opening the email. If they are just barely started (or a Master) I will go ahead and open it. If it takes away progess, it won't take much that way, but if it happens to be the automatic promotion email, they get more benefit from it.

Well, it's now happened to me twice today! Both my adults have lost huge progress. I'm sorry I don't know how to hide my question in case it's a spoiler but how do I exit the program safely if this happens again? I can't keep losing so much, this is not fun.

I'm sorry about those horrible events OrionsRose If you want to hide spoilers, here's the code you would use:
Type spoiler here
Now as for avoiding the bad event: After checking your e-mail and that nasty career e-mail pops up, do not press "Okay" instead make sure you're in Windowed mode and right click on the Virtual Families tab in the task bar and choose "Close" I actually tested it a few times before making this post and it worked for me.

You can also click on the 'x' in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Sorry 'bout that, it's been a long time since I frequented these forums! I didn't realize how advanced this place had become in the last year. Thanks for the trick to hiding spoilers. Thanks for your sympathy and the advice! I can't believe this keeps happening. How immoral my people must be to keep getting accused of improper behavior and theft of information! And here I thought they were such a nice little family.

Yeah, that really is not the best event to keep coming back at your family.. If only we could give our little peeps some salty candy for doing bad things at work I've only seen it once in my first generation and didn't even think of trying to avoid it >_<

Both of those only work in windowed mode, correct? Lyssaria, have you tried running in full screen mode and using Alt+Tab to tab back to the desktop and then closing from the task bar? Does it work the same or does the Alt+Tab cause the email to be excepted? You can also click on the 'x' in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

I'll give it a shot knk! Logically it should work with your method as well, but we can never know for sure. I'll go test that right now ------ Tested it and Alt+Tab does not automatically press "Okay" for you Hurray for a fullscreen solution! Thanks for bringing it up.

Yes, thank you very much! I like having a fullscreen option. And my immediate idea of ctrl+alt+delete was not the smartest. Won't do that again. The email seemed to still be there when I came back and it probably wasn't good for the computer. You folks are awesome for helping me. Seems like it's going to be a long road with this family! I swear they are good people! heehee

I used to use ctrl+alt+delete because I didn't know about Alt+Tab definitely not the recommended shortcut to use! It's okay! They always could've been framed by a co-worker or something I do like to make excuses for my little peeps when I have to.

The worst fate my peeps had today was getting a serious infection >_< It was actually the child I plan to continue the family's next generation and she was heading towards the "Extremely Weak" zone! The best thing that happened today was mastering one of my peeps' careers and getting the trophy! I would've cried if I accidentally accepted that horrible infringement e-mail before the promotion.

I do what knksmiles does as well, check my peep's progress before opening the email. If they are very near a promotion and a professional magazine is in the store, I buy it and give it to them to take them to the next level. Then I open the e-mail. One of my peeps lost progress for days because of that particular e-mail until I finally caught on.

I did nearly cry, especially the second time. I think I would have just closed the game forever if that had happened to me MissKathy.

The same trick can be used for the tax man when he is naughty. DrDan, I'm with you there. I just take them. lol In later gens you will have a lot of money and when the upgrades are done, losing career progress isn't a big deal as they usually max out at such an early age. Someone (I think it was Arnie) posted in the careers and salaries thread that you can also use Alt + F4 when in full screen to close the game.

Oh my thats not good I could see the Spammer or hacker losing a "pay Grade" so to speak but anything else no way.... LOL I have not had it happen yet that will suck when it does. But I won't reset the game because of it I will take the events as they come its part of the fun LOL... I just hope when it happens that my family has plenty of cash in the bank LOL....
D I couldn't bring myself to reset either, but I will ignore emails in real life when I am busy, so I use that excuse for my people too and they go right on ignoring email until they get that promotion. If you don't shut down or switch families between getting the email and answering, the emails just pile up. I had one of my mothers move to master just after making level 6 because 2 of the 4 emails waiting to be answered were instant promotions.

How ironic that the same person that was accused of impropriety just a few years (days) ago was today given accolades and bumped up to the next level which was very nice indeed. The frame-up must have been found out!

Yeah, I was pretty pleased with that email! LOL Especially considering she'd only just gotten the previous promotion overnight and wasn't too far into it.
:P @ Lyssaria You couldn't have even been that far into progress with your 4th generation. Why isn't there a "stick-out-your-tongue" smiley when you need one?

It was actually in my other family, the Rainbows ^^ they almost reached master cook so I couldn't let them lose progress! For my stick-out-tongue needs, I use the face LOL

Ok ok, that's a good reason. It would have been awful to lose that much progress, I agree.
If that's the face you use for sticking out your tongue then I had better clear my name and say that's now how I meant it when I just PMed you! LOL
