After you bought a pet is there any way to get rid of them ? besides buying another to replace ..... because for now i would like to be petless...

I thought I saw somewhere that if you buy a new pet, but don't take it out of the tool tray, the original pet would be gone and you could then return the new pet to the store. I have not tried it, so I cannot say for certain it works, but might be worth a try?

I wonder what would happen if you removed the pets image from the images file? Not delete it, just move it into a backup file and see what happens. Or would that totally mess things up?

I wouldn't want to test what happens when there's an image missing..my guess is either an error message, crash or invisible pets.

It would be better to get a mod that just makes the pets invisible so you at least have the file loading into the game.

You're absolutely right, Lyssaria - I wasn't thinking straight. I tested it (cuz I'm wreckless ), and the game wouldn't load.

I think you are right - get a mod that makes the pets invisible so there is a file to load. Or maybe the pets could all be changed to roombas, so it just looks like the rooms are being vacuumed all the time.

In case knk's method doesn't work, I attached a modded pet grid below so they'll show up invisible for you. Remember to backup your original if you do use it, since you'll probably want the pets back someday.

I'm currently testing knk's method in a family. When I have another pet show up, I'll post how it goes.

It doesn't work until you set the new pet down in the house or yard. I've replaced turtle twice.

Pets are not replaced until you set them down. Think about it... if the old pet vanished as soon as you bought a new pet from the store, you wouldn't be able to change your mind and return the new pet to the store with no harm done!

Well if i cant do that... well here is what happened i tried to be all smart with computers again and install a mod to get my dog more of a reddish color i downloaded it and copied into the original images folder but then there were two pet grids so i deleted the original one so that the 2nd would take affect it didnt work so i deleted the second one and went into my backup images and copied the orginal pet grid and pasted it into the images..... now the dog looks partly cuttoff when he walks and there is two of him... any ideas?

i guess thats what i get when i try to mess with things although i am getting better at it i have now succesfully installed 6 mods into VF.... help would be apprciated thanks much !

I tried knksmiles method and it seems to have worked. Had a dog, a turtle came up for sale so I bought the turtle but left it in my tool tray. Looked around for my dog - he was nowhere to be found. Waited awhile, looked around for dog again, still couldn't find him. Returned the turtle to the store and got my $500 back. Dog is still gone. Now I'm gonna have to wait for a dog to come for sale again. Oh well, he was shedding all over the place anyway...

You're using the wrong version of the image.

the wrong image i am ? how ? isnt it supposed to be the original pet grid and i made sure that it is the original because i copied it into the images folder from th backups did i do that wrong?

It's very possible to have the wrong image, depending upon when you backed up your image folder. Some of the game's images changed slightly when updates were released. If you backed up your game's images folder and subsequently installed an updated version, some of your original images will no longer work. The pet grid is one of the images that was changed. Reinstalling the update will correct the problem.
