How rare is the rainbow haired girl? I had almost beaten the game under one name, and you can have five different games going on there, you know... And progress was really slow on the one I had almost beated, so I started another game just to play while the other one kind of progressed, and when I had to adopt my first little family member, the rainbow-haired girl was the first option... But my little sister deleted that game... I don't know why she did, but it doesn't really matter, because I hadn't made too much progress... But how rare is that rainbow haired girl? And is there a chart of all the people there are, and what combinations of parents will make certain children? Can parents HAVE a rainbow haired child, or can she only be adopted or chosen from the start?

I made a post about this exact subject here

It's one of the rare hairstyles of the game, if not the rarest! It's at the bottom of the hairstyles chart so she can only produce the rainbow-haired child with the man with spiked blue hair. Sometimes there are also mutations so you could accidentally create the rainbow-haired girl with another couple but that would be really rare!

The light blue/dark blue hair is also rare smile It's near the end of the chart close to the rainbow-haired girl but there's more than one way to get a child with that hair.

So, is there an actual chart that shows what parents make what kids? I find that getting blue eyed kids is extremely rare too... I don't like the dull brown or black eyes... The only time I have ever gotten blue eyed children is when BOTH the parents had blue eyes... The dad had bright sky blue eyes and yellow hair, and the mom had light teal eyes and yellow hair, and every child they had had the teal eyes and yellow hair, except for one child which had brown eyes and yellow hair...

We use a theory here that we can look at the picture in the Images folder of the game that has the heads of the adults. We then locate where the mother and father is, and look for the middle area between them, that's where you'll find how their children will look! I'll put the image in this post so you can see for yourself

Pick one male and one female, then count the heads that are between them on the picture and then cut that number in half and locate the heads in that spot..the child should be one of those in there

Sometimes there are also mutations where you'll get kids that aren't in between the two parents' heads in that image.

Example
Lets say in my game, I adopted the rainbow-haired woman and she married a blonde man. I look at the picture of all the heads and look for the rainbow girl and blonde man. These are circled in purple.

I count how many heads are between them, there are 8..so the middle would be 4. I circled the 4th and 5th head since they are closest in the middle.

The child will likely come out with one of those heads, but it could also be children outside of the green circle. If a child came out that is far away from the purple circles, we call that a mutation.

If you're using the rainbow haired girl and the spikey haired man beside her, the child can come out looking exactly like either of them, or like the heads above or below them.

La la la..

Well, if what I know is true, if you want the children to look just like the parents, here's what you do.

1. Open the images file.

2. Look for the head you wish to obtain.

3. Look at the male/female version of it, they would be right next to each other.

4. Now, you need both parents to produce a child like their heads, so try to get one, then wait for a proposal for another (This could take some time!) That way, if it's a girl, it would be the female head, and if a boy, then the male head (unless mutation occurs!).

Another way to get a child of unique hair color is to back up your save game files before opening it up for the day to see your event, and keep trying till you get the orphan event. Sometimes, it will bring an oddly-haired-colored child to your doorstep, but that's just as far as I know, the rest is up to you.

EDIT: Oh! Lyrissa beat me to it! blush

Well you did add on to what I said Joine! I forgot to mention that if there are no heads in between the two parents (they're right next to each other) their kids will look just like them. smile

You can find the file at:
C:\Program Files\Virtual Families\Images

and the file itself is called "bigheads00.png"

Yeah, as far as I know mutations are random..I haven't tried to do anything to induce mutations yet lol

I'm just assuming, yes they are. I don't have VF, but I have read what everybody's asked and answers to their questions.

And Lyssaria (yes! Got the name right!) just added the images in the spoiler tag. Just open it up, copy and paste, and enjoy trying to make babies that look like that (i use that strategy in the Virtual Villagers series too, if you want help with that game too!)

Ohhh you just basically showed me the file on there... I understand now, that the only way to get the rainbow haired girl is to have her and the black spiky haired guy... So, the only way to get an exact duplicate of the parent is if you have the girl and the boy that are right next to each other on the images document?

Lyssaria, if you have two heads side by side they can also have kids with the heads directly above them and directly below them.

Thanks for the info Lewanda! I was wondering how I randomly got Mr. Mohawk in my rainbow family.

Katie, thats not the real size of it, it was just made smaller because the real one is HUGE..just look for it and try opening it up, I like to open it with firefox or internet explorer lol

Click to reveal..
So if I pair up the blue-haired girl at the bottom with the guy with the mohawk, they can also produce children that are rainbow-haired and spikey o_o

Wow, this was very informative! Thank you! I finally got a little girl with a "chop sticks" in her hair and a pig tail girl too. I have been patiently waiting. I think the pig tails are so cute! But, I would like a rainbow haired person. All I have come across by chance would be the blue and purple or green streaked girls.

Congrats Lewanda! May there be many little unique children running around in your little peeps' future..despite his lack of interest in children grin

I've tried searching for a wife for my starting peep with at least -decent- looking hair and it took like 10 tries just to get it looking nice! I realize how lucky I was to only need 3 tries..it's almost as though they wanted me to give it a test drive. smile

Yeah, she came that way. Mohawk's sure don't suit him, but it will be awhile before they can afford an outfit for him. They both have in-between the scales salaries.

I failed at my first attempt to make a baby with them. Next time I'm saving the LDW files before trying. With his not wanting kid's it's going to be hard to get them.

I think this one was probably a genetic mutation as the most colorful/unique hair is near the blondes

So, can a mutation be a guarantee? Is there a definite chance that any male looking like Yodo and any female looking like Portal combined can produce a baby looking like Katina? Or is there not any greater chance than if the bald guy and the purple haired girl got paired up?

It's really hard to tell since mutations are very rare and appear to be random..someone would have to recreate that scenario with those two parents and try to make children until they produce the rainbow girl and record how many times it took.

Then to verify that number they'd have to do it again! As far as I know no one has tried this yet although knowing my history of boredom, I'll probably end up doing it LOL!

Update
I'm actually trying it right now and on the initial adoption page I got the spiked hair guy after clicking try again 3 times and then rainbow 3 times after that...spooky!

I believe the whole idea behind mutations is that they are as random as a game generator can make them. That being said, no, I don't think that mutations (of any type) can be a guarantee.

katieprice, if you have spike and he marries the blue hair girl you will have...I'd say at least 90% chance of having a rainbow girl baby. If he marries any other girl the chances will lower accordingly to how far apart her head is from his on the heads image.

Thanks Lewanda. smile So the closer their heads are, IF I have Spike, the greater the chances? I didn't get the blue-haired girl with Spike... It was two separate families. frown Now I got the rainbow haired girl... So I should probably go no more than one or two heads above her for a husband, right?

And for clarification... If I have the guy with the mohawk, and I pair him with any girl BUT Rainbow or Blue, then he can only produce a rainbow baby by mutation, correct?

Yes, the closer the heads are that row the better the chances will be of producing her.

katieprice, it wouldn't be considered a mutation, as they can produce kids from the heads directly above and below them or anywhere in between the mother and father's heads. Mohawk or Spike either one can have the rainbow girl baby. Though it isn't as sure as like it is in Lyssaria's case where she has both Spike and Rainbow. I would follow her directions for saving the LDW files to get the right proposal when it came to your couple making babies. Then you could try until they had a rainbow child.

Ditto!! I was thinking the same thing about the names. You both are cracking me up!!! I have been trying to get the gruesome foursome most of the day today. So I thought I would come and check up on everyone to see if you guys are having any luck. I haven't yet but I am persistent. For some reason I am having a hard time figuring out the backup thing though. So, if they don't get the right person by the time they are 30 I just start over. I can't wait to have little blue girls running around. She is my very fave!! K guys, keep having fun!

katieprice, unless I counted wrong just now there's 51 male and 51 female.

Take that back...I think there's 50 of each.

Well, I'm up to now two generations worth of full family kids (12 kids) so I suppose this is a good place to give you guys an update for my little mutation project grin

Updated again!

Click to reveal..

For a child to look like he/she should be genetically, they'd look like one of the following:

Here is my edited family tree putting all children together. Children with a distinct blue border are twins, black borders are tripets and the green outlines mean mutants!

Just for reference, I have found that the most common child for a couple can be found directly in the middle of them. For example, if a guy's head is 10 heads above the girl's head, they're most likely to have a child with a head 5 rows away from themselves. Does that make sense?

Tuna Puzzler mentioned that I don't have to exit the game when I want to use my backups..so what I'm doing is getting them to try for a child, after they succeed, I pause the game and take a screenshot of the family tree and edit the new baby into my photoshop file then I switch to another one of my families (I just keep this one paused), replace the saved files with my backup, return to the mutatation family and voila! no more baby, I can keep going. smile

OMG! I think I just had triplets and they're mutants, but not one of the bottom four hairstyles

That's right Katie. I posted the same thing sometime back.
Thought they can also have babies with the head that is the same as theirs, the one above or the one below.

I edited my post on page 7 to include the new children grin

I've been waiting for these two to produce kids using the heads above and below them, it's probably just less common but not necessarily a mutation since it is right near the parent's heads.

No it wouldn't be a mutation, since their heads, the heads below, above, and those in halfway mark between mom and dad are part of VF genetics.

Well I guess I'm done for today! Have a great night everyone smile I'll be continuing the mutation project with this family tomorrow to see how many more children it'll take to get another mutation, or if I can get those cuties above and below the parents' heads.

I now have had a little family consisting of:
Mr. Spike ( dad )
Ms. Blue hair ( mom )
The blonde bunned girl right next to the blue girl (1st daughter )
A bald kid ( equivalent to the one above )
A rainbow haired girl ( finally! )
Mr. Mowhak ( okay... )
A blue haired girl ( yesss!!! )
And, finally, after about four tries, a girl from the exact opposite end of the scale.
I didn't use backup files, I just waited very long.
That is all.

Congrats on the unique family Elisa! I am really shocked at your patience, I wouldn't have been able to do that without backups. shocked

And now I have another family with cool hair:
Grayson (blue spikes)
Marie (short blonde)
and Sapphire (blue hair)
And now the game tells me that Marie might need baby boost to have children! I need an opinion. Should I wait until I have $500 and inject Marie, or let Saffy, as I call her, be an only (,and certainly pampered) child?
P.S.,
This was also without backup files. Just luck and 2 rejected proposals.

I think it's really up to you, I like to see how many kids I can produce within a family and what they look like, but if you want to keep the family small (at least in this generation) you can as well smile

I'd probably save the money for emergency food supplies or doctor consults/medications.

Love Sapphire's name by the way!

Now Saffy is a big sister to a 2-year-old brother, Bico (by-co), and a sweet baby sister, Honey (I just have to use that name for blonde kids! I can't help myself! I've done it to the other family, too!). I injected Marie, after all. smile
Saffy is 9.
