I posted twice on here and cant find it anywhere. So,I'm having trouble getting answers if I cant find what i posted.I do know that this game has a lot of information on here. And it seems as though the more i read the more confused i get.*sigh*My problem is rememberin them by name. Now if i could do iy by seeds I think I'd be able to understand the information a lot better.for instance like the 2 pod looking cactus seeds.Or the 1 that looks like a bean.Or the one that looks like oh,a potato, ones white and th other 1 is yellow, with bumps all over it.Now let me post this and see if i can find it.And if i can I"ll post some questions and hopefully get me some answers.

Searcher,

If you would like to check up on a topic you post, you can add it to your watched topics list. To do this, click on the "Topic Options" tab at the top of the thread, and then choose "Add Topic to your Watched Topics" You can then access your watch list by clicking on the "My Stuff" drop down menu and choosing "Watch Lists"

If you look in the Plant Tycoon Guides section, (not the current forum but the one toward the bottom), you should find a complete picture guide that will help you get the names you are looking for. I believe they are all download files. Hope to help with your questions. smile

I'm thinking I need to keep all of my posts on 1 page,so it's easier for me to keep track of all this helpful information.I seem to be stuck.I keep seeing the name of a certain seed (cant recall what it's called)Promise to go back and look for it tho.And I'm not too sure I ever had it or even seen it.It is vital that I have it,so I need to know what it looks like. What really confuses me is that I can pollinate 2 completely different plants and get the same color of seed,so it makes me even more confused.I am soooo addicted. It isn't the ball cactus,I bought that from the store today. My other question I've been asking never got answered. This ball cactus....I have the dark green seeds still, why can't I use it to cross pollinate and achieve the same results?I really love how fast you get back to our questions,it must be difficult to keep up.Thanks again so much for your help.... smile

To pollinate the same plant in order to get more of that plant's seeds, Self-Pollinate it. To do this, select a plant (white ring around the base of the plant's pot). Click and drag the pollen onto the SAME plant (white ring around the base of the plant's pot).

To pollinate a different plant in order to get a completely different seed, Cross-Pollinate it. To do this, select a plant (white ring around the base of the plant's pot). Click and drag the pollen onto a DIFFERENT plant (one that does *not* have the white ring).

I hope these two definitions assist you with your problems. smile

I've been looking at the spoiler page, making a list of what i have.(trying to anyways)...and I am about to try cross pollinating to get certain plants, like this mela rare oak.I'm slowly learning as I go to look at the beginning to understand a little bit better.I have a so-so list of what I have and what I need.Oh,and I lied.I was under a different name when I got the citrus cactus.I'm going to try n cross pollinate a mela orchid with a viola maple and see if i get my mela maple..So,I pollinate the tree(the Rosaceae)correct?to get or change it into the mela rare oak?Am I doing this right? What confuses me the most is that a lot of the seeds look alike.the picture on the left is what it used to be?Or is it what I cross pollinated to get the seed?Oh,Don't tell me you're an alien smile

I'm only an alien in my mind :P

I'm not really understanding what you are asking. There are many lists in the guide section, so I don't know which you are using. Also, you mentioned 4 different types of plants, so I'm not sure which one you are attempting to get.

If this helps, stay *away* from the mutation liquid until you know exactly how it all works. That just confuses things.

When a seed appears in the plant's information box, it is the seed that you just created (either by self pollination, cross pollination, or mutation)

I'm sorry.I was refering to the magic plant page.Okay,I took pollen from my from a mela orchid and pollinated a Rosaceae Rare Oak,and from what I could tell,it stayed the same???This is why I am confused. And I've only tried the mutation liquid twice, and for now that is enough. You're right,it makes things more confusing.Okay.Would I be better off just starting all over and just buy a few seeds from the store??I don't seem to be getting anywhere....an oak is an oak,so why does it not change??regardless if it's a Jalapea or a mystic.....or any other name for that matter.(I hope I said the right plant. It might've been a fabled maranta, but i don't think it was.)And the seed information box. There 2 of them sometimes.1 on the left and 1 on the right.I'm thinking the picture on the right is what it"ll look like after it has become mature??

When you cross-pollinate plants, you have to grow the seeds to see the new plants. Pollinating doesn't change a mature plant, it only affects what kind of seeds are produced.

Maybe you can explain why when i cross pollinated a Fourpetal Ananas with a Nox Maple the seed went back to a tier 2 I think. It's brown and shaped like a pea.Why am I going backwards? What is it,that I'm doing wrong?I'm trying to get the four petal maple. And if it has 4petals,why can't I cross pollinate and get a 4petal maple? What am I doing wrong???I'm so frustrated

Cross-pollinating plants often produces a lower tier that that of the parents. That's why you need to keep track of your breeding or carefully follow one of the breeding charts in the guide section. The Ananas and Maple you crossed should have produced a Jalapa Lemonbush. Maybe you didn't select the plants you thought you did. Crossing a Jalapa Maranta and a Citrus Ball Cactus will give you a Four-petal Maple.

Well, see. That's one of my problems.I no longer have a Citrus Ball Cactus.I have up=graded cactuses tho.The barrel and that other one.Why won't they work?I have a jalapa Astera, but not a Jalapa Mantra.and a Blazing Maranta too.Okay,I looked at the breeding chatrs before and even that's confusing to me.Because there are so many different names of all the plants.Hard for me to remember them and know what seed goes to what plant.*Sigh*At this rate I"ll still be playin this game next year...

I'm patiently waiting to hear from you.I downloaded something from a link that you posted. What is a reptan?I've had to have seen and had them as far along as I am.It's something on Microsoft Excel. So,I take a reptan and cross it with a Ball Cactus and then(the seed that i get from that cross) a maranta with an astera? How does this work?Have you got anything a lil bit more simpler to follow and help everyone out?I've seen the one with the x in it,and it looked just as confusing to me as well.or...the seed is a Maranta and I take that sed and cross with an Astera?then that seed I cross with a maple? If thats the case, where do i get the maple from?Am I even making sense at all?confused Please help me....

The key to understanding the breeding is realizing that the flower types and the foliage types are independent. When you select plants for pollination, you have to consider the flowers and foliage separately.

You will get confused if you try to randomly breed and keep every kind of see you make. The seed trays aren't large enough for that.

The only seeds you absolutely need to keep are the common (Tier 1) seeds, which include the Reptans, Astera, Maranta, Maple, and Ball Cactus foliage types and the Spotted, Bluestar, Jalapa, Four-petal, and Ball flower types. All other Tier 1 through Tier 3 seeds (and the Magic Plants) can be created from them with one or two generations of cross-pollination. The Tier 4 plants can come later, when you have enough money for Exotic seeds and Mutation Liquid from the store.

Maybe you will find the breeding advice in this guide easier to follow. smile

Well, good morning.Okay,I understand what you're saying there.I didn't realize this until it was too late and I raised certain seeds never saved certain ones.I got rid of the wrong ones and kept some of the wrong ones.Money's not an issue for me.I've already bought a few, still waiting for the ball cactus to show up.I bought a(I have trouble remembering all the names) I know it's one I was looking for.I downloaded the virtual seed tray, but I don't think I'm going to use it to store my seeds in,so i can run both and look at the chart. From it,I seen I had the grass, but now I no longer do.I need it more for the chart than a place to store my seeds.I think it'd make things easier for me.I'm not sure if i ever had a Spotted. Now when u say blue star.As in flowers?I have a Blue Star Rare Oak.Do I need that seed?Okay, can it be any Maple?Any Four Petal?Did I confuse you?I hope not.I think I confused my self

The ideal situation (for efficiency) is to save a seed for each common flower/foliage combination (Spotted, Bluestar, Jalapa, Four-petal, and Citrus Reptans; Spotted, Bluestar, Jalapa, Four-petal, and Citrus Astera, etc. - 25 seeds in all), although you can make any Tier 1 through Tier 3 species starting with only 4 seeds (Spotted Reptans, Citrus Reptans, Spotted Ball Cactus, and Citrus Ball Cactus) - you'll just have to cross-pollinate more plants to get what you need.

When you're down to only one seed of a specific plant in your "starter set" you'll need to plant it and self-pollinate to make more of those seeds.

Okay.I'm starting to understand.I'm a little greedy tho,so I like to keep a lot of the expensive plants that I've found, just in case I need the money, until I find something else even more expensive.I am going to try something from this chart and see what happens.I think I'm going to make something I haven't had yet. What's so confusing is,that it says to x-pollinate the same seed (mela orchid x mela orchid x 4 petal ananas and i should get a mela astara)I don't see or understand why i need to pollinate the same seed to achieve or to get that plant. It just makes things more confusing is all it does.(I'm still waiting for seeds to show up in the shop)Hoping I see a ball cactus seed in there today.

You should probably find a breeding guide that works for you and stick with that, rather than try to use a bunch of different ones. That might help with the confusion. smile

In order to use the breeding combinations in VST, you need to properly interpret the brackets (you start with the inside pair first and work your way out - just like in algebra). You aren't being instructed to breed two of the same plants together. Borg has an explanation of it in this VST instructions, which I'll reproduce here for convenience:

Quote:

THAT LOOKS LIKE GIBBERISH! WHAT'S THAT MEAN, IN ENGLISH???
To breed a Bluestar Gladiatus, follow these steps:
  • Crossbreed a Bluestar Reptans with a Jalapa Ball Cactus
  • Take the plant that results and cross it with a Nox Orchid
  • Take the plant that results and cross it with a Nox Orchid Again
  • Voila, the plant that results should be a Bluestar Gladiatus

Okay,I have a question.I'm trying to grow a magic plant.(have no clue what 1 it is)here's the combination:Aureus Ananas x4petal MarantaxAureues MarantaxFragrant LemonbushxViola Pear Cactus. What I done was:I set them up in order like above and pollinated from 1 to the other. Was that wrong?Do I need to wait for the seed to show, and THEN pollinate THAT seed with the 4petal Maranta? And then wait 4 THAT seed 2 grow? And THEN pollinate THAT seed with the Aureues Ananas...so and so forth??See why I'm so confused now??

Okay,I have the list up,with the brackets.Do I have this right?
I start with the Aureus AnanasxFragrant Lemonbush?Am I right so far?(this is like 5 or 6 plants,so I need to take this step by step)Hang on a second,I look at the brackets on the right first, right? And selsect the ones with the most brackets on the right and thats the first 2 plant, correct?so it's not the lemon bush it's the 4petal Maranta, right?I wait 4 the seed to appear,I take that seed and x it with...These brackets are confusing....I'm seeing more than 1 that has 3 brackets on the right,so....???I dont understand??

I'm sorry, but in order for me to help you, I need to see the plant names and brackets exactly as they appear in the VST. Your descriptions aren't specific enough for me to advise you.

I"ll send it to you in a lil while.Let me sell these plants real quick. It's a shame that I use that chart and I have it so I can see the magic plants and everything, that I still get confused.*sigh*With the pictures,it helps me learn the plants at least.Slowly but surely. The pictures helps me out quite a bit, because now I know what plants to look 4 when I go to my seed chart. And it even helps me learn the plants as well, with the flowers.

In that example, you can breed the

Aureues Ananas with FourPetal Maranta - [[[Aureues Ananas]x[Fourpetal Maranta]]

Aureues Ananas with Fragrant Lemonbush - [[Aureus Ananas]x[Fragrant Lemonbush]]]

FourPetal Maranta with Viola Pear Cactus - [[FourPetal Maranta]x[Viola Pear cactus]]]

Fragrant Lemonbush with Viola Pear Cactus - [[Fragrant Lemonbush]x[Viola Pear cactus]]]]

Hope this helps.

I just want to say thanks again for your help. Not just 1 of you,but both of you.I don't know what I'd do without either 1 of ya.Probably would've gave up,I would've been so frustrated. And that chart helps out a lot too.It tells me what to do to get any plant I want as long as I have that plant in my stock.I'm still waiting for them to grow and pollinate at this time.Wonder what"ll be next.Thank you both SOOOO much.....

Searcher, if you'll download the virtual seed tray, there's a chart that will help you with your plant breeding. If I'm not mistaken, there are also pictures some where than you can print off, that shows, each seed, each plant, and you won't have to fight trying to figure out what each seed or plant looks like before you grow it.

I was lucky today, I got the Berries of Wealth when I bought my extinct seeds.

I still don't understand all of the brackets around plants names, even after reading all of the explinations.
