When one or both parents die, a new generation button will appear on the family tree page. If you want to start a new generation, just click the button and you'll have a choice among the kids. Click adopt and you have the kid you chose moving into the house. If only one parent died, starting a new generation will kick out your old parent and any kid below age 18 from the house.

So glad to see you mentioned this part, serendipity. When I first started, I didn't stop to think about that, and then I felt SO guilty for kicking a 62-year-old widower out of his own home! There's probably something in the coding that makes it impractical to do this, but it would be nice if the remaining parent could stay for the last few years of their life.

I just pretend they bought a condo in Florida (or some other virtual retiree hang-out) that's near the beach or golf course, because they didn't need such a "big" house any more. They wanted it well taken care of so it could last for many generations to come. So, my first gen begins this tradition of passing down the house and collectibles (and the family fortune) so that all generations to come may do the same. smile

That's what happened to me too. I accidentally kicked out one of my parents. frown

I kicked myself out (named the female founder after myself) without realizing..so I just tell myself I'm enjoying life in a luxury nursing home grin.

lol i don't start a new generation until both parents have died and all kids have moved out. i think they should be able to visit though. maybe that could be possible in VF2?
