I have a little girl who is obsessed with drawing on the wall. I have fed her tons of salt candy and scolded her with the red glove multiple times. But the next thing I know, she is drawing on the wall again. I checked her dislikes to see if using the desensitizing kit might help, but she has no dislikes listed. (I thought maybe if she disliked blue, I could take that dislike away, as she might not like the blue wall and feels she needs to draw on it to cover the blue. lol)

I almost didn't open this thread thinking it would be another one about a child's head spinning around. lol

I have always been a firm believer in the nasty candy, but after many, many families, I've finally had two kids that actually repeated the behavior after candy had been given.

If their happiness level is at the elated level, don't be afraid to use the red hand. Then, place them at a task that you can immediately give them the green hand for. The best way to get them to stop something that annoys you to death is to train them in the same way you train an adult to work. (Train them to do something else using the green hand.) Make them study or swim or dance or play with toys, in the sand, etc. Choose only two of those things and praise no more than twice in a row, then switch to the other and praise for that. Soon enough, you'll find those are the only things they'll want to do.

That works well enough for most of the family members, but once in a while you do get one who seems to have OCD, and no matter how much retraining you do, they will continue the behavior that drives you nuts. laugh Perhaps not quite as often as before the multiple red glove treatments and salty candies, but as soon as they think your back is turned... laugh

I had a shred-aholic. Would not work on her career, sleep or do any of the activities I praised her for. And every time I got up to get a cup of coffee, sure enough I would hear the sound of the shredder crazy When she finally made Master, I just let her shred. grin

Omg haha That reminds me of my daughter's old family! She had a hacker dad with kids named Macro and Zip, which I thought was hilarious. Then one day an ophan shows up on the doorstep named Ink at about the same time she upgraded to the third office. Suddenly the dad became obsessed with shredding documents, as if there was some evidence of his crimes! My daughter used to say he thought Ink was a spy. It was hilarious!

Hmm... There may be a connection... Mine was a lobbyist. There is a post of her here, the first time I saw her at it.

Despite her obsession, she was one of my favorites. The daughter of my first favorite adoptee, a rocket scientist named Adope. (read "a dope")

Ahh yes, it is highly possible that there is an attachment to their professions. Arthur could have programmed them to be more likely to do certain things, just as with likes and dislikes.

I've not had a truly obsessed peep.

Has anyone tried the encyclopedias on an obsessed peep?

It's suppose to give them new interests. Maybe it will change their behavior?

I tried the Encyclopedia and nothing... - they just find something else to be obsessed about.

I had a peep who was obsessed with exercising. She would not work or even sleep if she could go to the treadmill!!! I used the encyclopedia and she decided to like sunshine as well, then she started exercising indoor and outdoor! *lol*

selcot, maybe the best thing would be an exorcism book or a Bible of some sort. *laughs*

I wouldn't worry overly much about it Sweetie. They can't really hurt the wall, as there's no real marks made by their drawing. I love to hear them laugh, so I actually encourage the behavior. Maybe I'm weird or something! LOL!!!!!

On a side note, when I created this thread I titled it "Possessed Child". Later (a few hrs), I decided "obsessed" sounded better. But when I went to edit the post, it already had been changed. I am curious to know who changed it, maybe a forum moderator, as I don't know who else would have access to change it. Not complaining, just wondering how it got changed.

It was likely a moderator or an admin that changed the title of the post, after quite possibly deciding (like you) that "Obsessed" fit the topic of the post better than "Possessed".

Same here. Any time the kids are giggling they get praised so they'll carry on, especially when they're playing in the dirt or chasing gophers.

That's interesting. I assumed it was something to do with not offending religious people.

Talking about obsessed children, here is my example:

This is Fabola, and she always had this craving for playing in the dirt. I kept punishing her with the hand, salty candies and nothing worked. When she was 14 I thought this problem had come to an end. She was doing adult stuff and did not have that child's voice anymore.

Then all of a sudden, she started squeaking and rolling in the dirt! *laughs*

Old habits die hard, they say... *laughs*

Maybe she just wanted one more wallow in the mud before she changed into a young lady.

I have a whole family that is obsessed with grooming. They're always in the bathroom brushing hair and teeth, drying their hair and feet and taking a shower! I know that cleanliness is good for you, but sheesh! Give it a break!
