I've got my environment up to Level 2, but only have $900 and my money is advancing really slowly so I can't get the new environment. All my good fish keep dying, somehow I managed to breed an oriental goldbulb as well as one with bright pink fins but they died straight away.
At the moment I have:
lots of golden goldbulbs,
some orange goldbulbs,
a speckled stickfish,
a speckled leaffish,
a greenfin, golden, orange and flagged leaffish
a hornet goldshark
What can I do with these fish to make some money while only have environment 2?!

I would concentrate on mass-producing those speckled leaffish for a little while. Keep on breeding them and selling them off and you should build up your bank account. The golden goldbulbs aren't bad for cash either if you don't have a mate for the leaffish.

thanks, i'll do that! it's just so annoying, reading about these cool fish and not being able to breed them! is Level 3 the highest fish environment?

Yup, three is the highest level for research. It makes a big difference when you finish level three. You can make anything after that. I didn't really start trying to accomplish too much until after that was finished. Have fun!!

In the mean time if you have the cash you can also use the growth hormone to rush the more fragile hybrids into adult hood. You can then sell them off before they die. You can also use LOTS of vitamins to keep rarer fish alive util you reach level 3.

yes, ditto on the vitamins. I've found that on level 1, 3/4 of your fish will die at age 5....OR live forever with multiple infusions of vitamins and/or growth serum. The only difference with level 2 is that these 3/4 of all species which died at age 5 will live to 19.99 years old, so usually one dose of vitamins will show you what they look like and all 3 doses will maybe let you breed them. But... usually if you don't have enough money to do the research, you don't have money for indefinite amounts of vities, so best to just breed commons and save your $ for researching environment.

And if I stop the time, will the research continue? Or does that stop too

I'm pretty sure that research also stops when you stop time.

The vitamin improves fish health but, it will take LOTS to keep fragile hybrids alive for very long in lower environments.

exactly!!!if you mass produce these, and customers buy them quickly, you can raise the price to make your money come quicker(mine are selling for $100 each)...the speckled leaffish is a big money maker as its a magic fish,

you can make more speckled leaffish by breeding the golden and flagged leaffish you have!!! breed them like crazy!!!

be careful when using growth hormone, using it too much or too quickly in a tank can cause pregnant fish in the tank to 'abort' pregnancies.

I have not had that happen, i have used the growth hormone an awful lot and very, very often, and only times pregnancies did not produce babies was when the tank was already full. Maybe I've been lucky!

i have used drop after drop in a tank where there were babies and pregnant fish, and none of the fish that were pregnant had babies, so i can only assume it was the growth hormone. i hadnt put anything else in the tank.

it does tell you to be 'careful not to use too much' when you purchase it. i try to heed that warning now!!

I've never tried it in a tank with pregnant fish. I have however taken babies into adulthood in a matter of minutes with 4 drops. You can get a lot of Canary Fire-Arrows that way.

OK, being the curious type that I am, I just had to try this out. I had 6 fish at various stages of pregnancy and put some growth hormone in the tank. Some babies appeared instantly, but not as many as would have been expected.

My guess is that since the growth hormone "jumps" the fish a certain number of days in age, whether or not they produce babies depends on how far they were from giving birth. If they turn the age when they would have given birth, you get instant babies. If they don't quite reach the age when they would have given birth, the babies will come sooner, but you still have to wait. However, if they pass the age when they would have given birth, they are deemed to no longer be pregnant. However, since the birth didn't take place, there are no babies in the tank. Hence, you lose the money for the babies and the money spent on growth hormone.

Are you sure that you don't have to many fish in your tank (Your only allowed 21) and thats why your not seeing babies?

im positive, i always keep 6 pregnant fish in a tank with a greenfin spot (19 total after birth)..i NEVER keep anymore than that so i am sure to never lose babies due to a tank being full. once the babies are born, i move them to the sell tank..when i have a full tank of babies, then i use the hormone

this system has been working well for me. all the babies are in one tank, and i think the hormone is utilized better when all 3 drops are used in one tank, not divided among 3

shoot, for $380, my babies better be grown up after i use a bottle of that stuff!!!

I normally find that 3 drops won't fully grow all of my fish

sure it can if you wait a bit between drops and not use all three straight away.

LOL, I bet your right! I normally only wait until i see some kind of change in the fishies before I drop in some more. By the 3rd dose I'd say about 90% of my fish are fully grown but, I normally need a 4th drop to get them all grown.
