Everyone went about it wrong if you wanted people to come here, or try virtual villagers. If you randomly go on and talk about how awful it is that they copied VV and that mytribe makers should be ashamed . People aren't going to automaticly stop playing my tribe and change their opinion they are just going to think you are RUDE. Also if they never heard anything about Ldw the first encounter left them with bad taste in their mouth. Maybe a better apparoach is " Hey if you like My Tribe you probably will like Virtual Villagers why not give it a try? They have a lot a like we also have a great forum for help if you need it. NOt to mention the creators are working on a great new game!" if you say something like that they may get curious and try. If you go off about a game that they apparently like they'll just think about your rudeness not the fact that they may like the other game.

It's of no use to go to the GG forum and trying to convince them. Besides, some of the people we were conversing with turned out to be our own forumers, some with different screen-names! Anyway, perhaps this thread would be a good place to discuss the details of what is similar in the game and what isn't. Besides, it will also give outsiders who are reading this thread, a better idea of what we are discussing.

I think the whole VV thing has died down at the grubby games forums now, as we got the message through to them that while it it a good game, it is definitely based on VV. That's all I wanted to do. I think some people are going a bit far by telling people they should not play the game, I think that VV fans should just tell people the obvious differences, get people to try both games to see for themselves, so even if people choose My Tribe over VV, they will still realise that it is based almost entirely on VV. For confuzzled people, see this (locked) post by Arthur explaining the similarities http://www.ldwforums.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/178615/1

I'm pretty sure VV will be going on for quite some time!!! If not (as many people believe there will be four VV games discovering the north, south, east and west of Isola), I'm sure LDW will continue making new, awesome games that we will love!!! Because Virtual Villagers was a new game that no-one had ever thought of before, it has become incredibly popular, and one of the many reasons why all us VV fans love it so much is because it is new and original. I was getting sick of games that were all so similar to each other, and VV really stood out to me. With that kind of success, it is bound to be copied, as we have seen in EFP, and even more in MT. My personal opinion, and I could be wrong, is that MT was just a cheap cash in on VV, and that the makers of MT couldn't be bothered making an original game. VV will remain on top though, as it was and still is the original (and the awesomest) Island sim game (I think is is anyway ). So, I say we just let MT go. I'll admit and I'm sorry that I played a big part in the whole argument-debate, but I really did feel let down by Grubby Games. Many others have asked for peace before me, and I am willing to call peace as well. It's a game that does not deserve four threads on this forum, so I say we just forget about it, and the rest of the world will as well, and VV will still be pure awesomeness!

emri, you have to cut down the trees to make room for buildings. I played the trial hour of this game from BFG and it was reasonably enjoyable, so I bought it - $6.99 with game club. While there are SOME similarities to VV (you have a tribe of people and you have to look after them - and SOME of the stuff they do is similar), there are also just as many differences. I actually find it reminds me more of Escape from Paradise than VV - and I found that game incredibly boring! My Tribe is better. Better than VV? Worse than VV? Not necessarily either. It's DIFFERENT to VV. I like that you're not stuck on the one island - you can build a ship and go to others. I like that you can cut down trees and harvest rocks and then replace them, and build as many houses as you like wherever you like. I LOVE that mothers don't nurse their babies for two years (be honest - how many people have asked that of LDW and it's been passed over?) As a tradeoff, they have to wait 2 years to have their next baby, but at least they're doing something in those 2 years. This is a forum that's loyal to LDW. So of course most people here will say they prefer VV. And that's ok. What's NOT ok is to tell other people not to play this game. Let people decide for themselves, and don't make them ashamed to admit they play it or even that they like it. I hate dealing with companies that try and draw people in by rubbishing their competitors. If I were a My Tribe fan and wanted to check out VV because someone said I'd like it, and I came here, what I'm seeing in these discussions would not make me want to come back. LDW would have just lost a new customer. I won't go so far as to say I'm enjoying the game - it's a distraction, and not much more. Something to do when I have a spare 10 minutes. I got it for $7.00 so it's been money well spent for me. But above all, it's not going to stop me buying LDW's NEW game for the FULL price when it comes out, or VV4 when that's available either. There's room in this world for everyone

I like that you're not stuck on the one island - you can build a ship and go to others Hey, I think that was my idea! I'm teasing, of course... I can't get into similarities or differences because I haven't played My Tribe beyond part of the demo...but one thing you mentioned stuck out to me. When you mentioned that MT was 'a distraction'... it made me think about VV and that its' developers were trying to create 'a beautiful' game. I think that is one of the many things I like about VV...it's just pleasant to look at for me (I really like the reef in VV3 and now that I can do mods of the hairstyles - sweeet!). That makes it a nice distraction from the everyday. I know, this post is a bit 'random' but I just wanted to mention that I think VV has done a great job in creating an entertaining game on many different levels, like esthetics. It's a difference from other games, not just MT, that some may not appreciate but I do. Just thought I'd throw that out there ...now back to the topic and MT...
