I have 5 families, and not one has found a rare bug. I have the mod where collectibles glow so I can find them easily. Is there a glitch, or am I the only one not getting any rare bugs? I have every single other collectible - all picture, nuts, twigs, coins, common and uncommon bugs. But no rare bugs.

They are extremely rare, I'm still waiting for the last three of my bug collection. I'm sure it is not a glitch; it's just because they are rare.

In the other VV games, some of the collectables were hard to attain too. It just took patience and lots of playing time.

i haven't found that many either, they seem to be the rarest collectible, but they steadily appear.

I know where they appear and when they appear. I even use the tropical rains to see if I can more items to appear. However, I just get more ladybugs.

Random days, random times. I once got 2 rare bugs and the 12th picture piece in one rainstorm!


Never happened again though, and I'm having a hard time getting the rest of the things, including commons, in that one. Guess it's not so good to get all your gifts in one day!

Nealsmama, my game is the same way. I've finally decided that I'm NEVER going to get the bugs completed and just give up on that one. Honestly, I get almost NO bugs no matter what I do in my games. I think that the game developers messed up on this part somehow. If they really didn't and it's supposed to take a really, really long time -- well, I don't have the patience for that as playing the game ONLY to try to find the bugs is just not fun for me. So, after my families have all the upgrades and have finished the coins, nuts & leaves and the pictures, I am deleting that family and starting over. I don't have the patience to just sit and watch them and look for bugs -- to me that is boring.

I think as opposed to all the last LDAW games, as this one runs into generations (ergo many,many generations) the collectibles are much rarer.
I have five games going, and I have gotten one of every collectible
but not (all) in the same game at one time.
Patience, and perseverance will be the way to go with this game.

I had the rare occurrence today of collecting 4 bugs after one rainstorm. Two were new ones and two were repeats that I sold on the internet.

I have yet to get a rare bug in one of my families. In the other I have 7 bugs, two of which are rare. The family that still has only two total bugs was started prior to the .05 update. The other was started after. In the family with 2 bugs, using the tropical rain only seems to give me coins or the millipede/catapillar. In the other, I have had at least one new bug show each time I used the tropical rain.

I spend twice as much time with the family with 2 bugs than I ever have with the other, and have completed all of the collecting trophies except the bug collection and the two trophies that depend on finishing that collection (the completing all four collections and getting all the collection trophies)

In that second family, I have 11 coins, 3 picture pieces, 5 nuts and twigs and 7 bugs. My husband has also noticed bugs appearing more frequently with his two families that were started after the .05 update. If I weren't so attached to that first family, I would delete and start all over.

I still have to get 2 rare bugs to finish my collection, but it really seems impossible. Just need those 2 to get 3 more trophies (for the bug collection, all collections and trophy master - or something like that.)

Ya know, I just had one of those weird days with one family. I used the bottled rain and I got 1 common, 1 uncommon and 1 rare, plus 2 leaves/twigs. This family had like 2 bugs (they don't even have the millipede!), 4 common twigs, 5 photo pieces and 10 coins.

I really think it's just random, but maybe...and I could be wrong, but it seems as if I got the "collectable rush" on Friday evenings (Korean time -9 GMT).

Actually, I'm not worrying so much about getting the collectables though. They'll come eventually....right??

As is usually the case with Murphy's Law, once I posted this, I saw my first rare bug - a blue butterfly. Unfortunately, I did not actually hit the pause like I thought, and I lost it before I could get my girl there.

What I find amazing is the shortage of snails in the game. At my real home whenever it rains hundreds of snails appear.

I have 5 games running and have found every collectable but not for a single family.

I am beginning to wonder if we don't see certain collectables, especially the rarer ones, until we reach a certain generation level. My "oldest" family is on their 7th generation, and I am just now getting some of the bugs, etc, that I have been waiting for. Just a thought.

I was thinking the same thing Jenny, but I'm not so sure about it. In fact, it seems to be getting more and more difficult for the rare collectibles to appear (at least for me).

What is terrible is that we have no control on that, I mean, there is nothing we could do for the bugs to appear (apart for the rain thing).

Well, I think we can say that Virtual Families is a waiting game.
