My new gen female had just married a guy with a blonde mullet and a kitchen career (same workroom as her.) She got the trophy for marrying rich. Just after eating, the guy made a latte and got another trophy for us, so despite his hair and his not so enthusiastic approach to the idea of having kids, we were pretty thrilled. Then, suddenly, my game crashed. I've never had that happen. Just a windows pop-up asking if I wanted to send an error report. I clicked "Don't Send" and relaunched the game. What I found dumbfounded me. There was a strange man in the kitchen preparing a meal.

I searched all over for the real hubby and he was nowhere to be found. So, I opened the family screen:

It seems the game thinks my little lady is still single and this strange man does not exist in the family. Oh, the trophies are gone as well.

I closed the game and relaunched it three times. The stranger was still there and she was still alone on the family screen. I restarted windows. No change. So, I'm back to last night's backup file for the previous gen. But I thought I'd post what happened, if not for entertainment value, perhaps it can be useful for some programming purpose. :P

Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about that situation. When there's a crash, the game is terminated suddenly, and it is unable to save during the "ungraceful exit" that follows. Since the game saves its progress automatically every 10 minutes, the most you can lose is 10 minutes of game play, but sometimes that progress can be significant (as you've discovered).

Yes, Barbara. Thanks for the reply. I actually expected the new gen to be gone completely because I've seen you post about the 10 minutes before. It was the stranger that gave me one of those "what the heck" moments. hehe

You really never know what's going to happen on the "other side" of a crash.

I keep wondering if new marriage proposals would come in, since the family tree showed her single. If she accepted one, would the stranger hang around, and would the new hubby have a problem with that? I would think so!

Fake hubby: Of course I am, don't be silly. Don't you remember our honeymoon in Hawaii? (*provides elaborate details only she would know*.)
Kara: No, that can't be, I have proof! (*Shows him wedding pictures and albums, where to her shock, her real hubby has been replaced by this stranger*.)

--Is she crazy, is she living in an alternate universe, or is somebody playing an elaborate hoax on poor Kara? We'll have to wait for the direct-to-video release to find out!

Those of you that know me will know my silly sense of curiosity. :P I couldn't just erase my poor glitched Kara. I copied her file before I replaced it with my backup. I started a new game on another windows user and pasted her in because I just had to see what would happen. I too wanted to know would she still get any proposals... what would happen if they tried to have a baby... so here's the update on my lil glitched Kara:

Sadly, no more proposals came. However, she and Max were successful at trying to make a baby:

In fact, Max tired her right out their first two attempts. :P
Their third attempt met with even greater success!!


Max kept his spunk and maxed out the family at the age of 52!


The family screen shows lil Kara as a single mother of 6 children!


Today they are a happy couple of 68 and 70, still living together. Nobody knows what happened to the blonde mulleted guy Kara thought she married. Maybe it was a dream. Maybe the neighbor was watching from the attic window and did something devious to him when he went to gather roses for the wedding ceremony. Maybe Max did away with him so he could have Kara for himself.... or maybe my sweet lil Kara wasn't so happy with my choice of spouse. You know our lil peeps DO seem to have an elaborate knowledge of computers. *giggles*

Well... the morning after my last post, I woke to find poor old Max had passed away in our sleep. My lil Kara and Star were obviously depressed and I didn't have much time for consoling them. I bought them something (can't remember if it was the grill or patio,) praised them a couple of times, fed them breakfast and set off about my day. I returned later to find my lil Kara had gone to join her Max and lil 18 year old Star was alone in the house with an interesting email awaiting on the computer:

So much for not getting any more proposals!! I laughed, paused the game, thinking my little experiment with my glitched family had come to an end, and came here to post what had happened. Then, I saw the replies about Stephino and Star and thought "hmmm.... I wonder if Star will get some freaky blank proposal" *giggles* So, today I finally had time to return to that little family and unpause them. First in the inheritance line-up was Stephino:

Does it get any more perfect than that? I just couldn't pass him up! Needless to say, I hit adopt without even looking at the other children (sorry Star.)
His first proposal (and now wife) wasn't too bad either:

She didn't win us any trophies, but I don't think they will be hurting for money and hopefully not for children either.

As for as forgetting Max, I don't think I need to worry about adding a note about him. He won't be forgotten. I remember him every time I see that blank spot on the family tree next to what appears to be a single mom with six kids (including triplets!)

I have a question about BayouBlonde's screen shots. Everything in the house appears to be so much more beautifully decorated than what I am seeing in mine. Why is that? I mean, I have just reached the third kitchen upgrade level for the first time with any of my families, but there is no rug on the kitchen floor. And, the living room, master bedroom -- wow! How do we get those?

Those are player created mods (modifications). If you scroll to the bottom of the main forum page, you'll see the mods forum, where many players have created mods for the game Please be sure and read the back up procedures and the installation procedures before adding any mods to your game

The mods you describe are by Lewanda (she's great!) Just look for posts made by her in the mod section, but you may very well see something made by others that you like more. One word of caution about mixing mods though: the game screen is actually made of up map pieces that fit together like a puzzle. So, you can't always mix items from different artists (for example, a bathroom from Moonlyght and a laundry room from Lewanda won't match up together in the game.)

The user interface I had in those screenies is by Sally and was called "Dark Interface" or something like that.

On another topic, poor lil Stephino passed away last night leaving his wife and one son still at home. He had six kids, including twins.

Those of you who know my mysterious Max know that since he appeared in this little family every generation has had six children, including multiples. That guy must have had some amazing genes. lol I've kept the family going to see how long it will last.

Lately I haven't been around a lot and this latest gen had a LOT of difficulty having children. The poor female was sick often (needing vanco twice) and they failed a lot too. It was beginning to look like they weren't going to make 6 kids, much less triplets. I was feeling guilty for not being here to make them try more often, letting Max down. But then... his good genes kicked in and I nearly squealed out loud (in the middle of the night - waking the hubby - not good!)



So, the Max genetic pool total is now two sets of triplets and two sets of twins... and he's still going!

I remember reading about Max Seems like he's got some great genes! That's hilarious! Grats on the wonderful family!

Thanks for keeping us updated BB. I love how Max snuck in and swept his misses off her feet.

The proposal (discovered after her death) is what tickled me! I have talked about the game soooo much lately, my mother has started playing. Of course, one of the first stories I just HAD to tell her was "the legend of Max." lol

Your mom will love the game I bet. Max's story is so much like a fairy tale. I just love it. You could write a VF fiction story about him.
