I can't find where this has been addressed before, so I am asking here. There have been times when I would purchase a 'profession magazine' applicable to one of the adult family members trying to progress in their assigned profession. When dragging it from the side tool bar to the member, there is something that says 'so and so' has earned money. So, why is there never any increase in the funds, nor in the progress bar on the detail screen?
Am I doing something wrong here?

I've never really noticed if there was or wasn't an increase in the money but I have noticed that one time when I gave one to a peep who was almost at the very top of the level he was on that it pushed him to the top so he reached the next level.
But I think it "barely" makes any difference.

There is no money paid over, but there is an increase in the peep's skill bar. When a peep advances to the higher levels, each increase barely registers, but it most definitely happens, as Simsane says. It's the same amount as when the peep completes a cycle of working on their career. The game uses the same routine when the magazine is used, hence the rather misleading message.
I think Barbara has said that it's unlikely to be changed at this stage.

From what I noticed, the higher the skill level (5-and up) your peep goes the slower it seems to make progress to the next level even using the "magazine". However, peeps on level 1 will jump almost to the end of that level if they read the "magazine" with the basic upgrade. When I upgraded my rooms and used the magazines, my peeps skill level jumps always jump to the next level (1-4). It does slow down at level 5 so I collect the "magazines" and keep them until I start a new generation in order to get the most from them.

Praise her when she is working on her career. That way when you aren't playing she will work on her career all on her own. I've had a family where both adults reached master before 50 and before the first kid moved to college.
