I have a child who lost both his parents by age 12 and is now living by himself. How long can they keep this up, given that they won't unpack groceries at this age? It's a little sad, after his father died, he was "looking for attention" and there was no one to give him any. Now he is playing train by himself.
(Don't feel too bad for him though...this is the same kid that was "elated" when his mom died...)
He'll last as long as there is food in the fridge I suppose.
You can't even buy him more food until he's 14 and can put it away, which won't be that far off. Do you think you've got enough food in the fridge to last him 2 years?
Yeah there's probably enough food, especially since it seems like they can go awhile without food. I was thinking they had to be 16 or 18 to do the groceries, he'll make it to 14.
Thanks, I will check out that other thread...I didn't see it before!
The food is put away automatically as soon as you put it in the kitchen, so you needn't worry about starvation. There are a lot of behaviors in the game that aren't absolutely necessary.

The kid should earn enough from selling duplicate collectibles to be able to buy groceries until he goes to college, provided you open the game up frequently enough.

Well, it's good to know that my seven-year-old orphan won't starve. His 'Fed' bar is slightly past the halfway mark (on the good side), but I didn't think he'd make it to 14 if he couldn't put away groceries and couldn't cook 'til then. I feel better.
