How long does it usually take for the next generation to take over? Was just curious. Sorry if this was already asked before.

It really depends on the size of your families, how old the parents are, and if you wait until all family members are gone (passed or at college) before starting a new generation.

I think my first generation took about 2 real time days, (give or take a few hours), with no pausing.

Ah ok, thanks. So far the parents are almost 50, 2 of 5 of the kids are at college..and 1 of the kids who are at home should be going to college soon. Thanks for the response .

They typically die by 65. As soon as one parent is gone, you can start the next generation.
