Your magic fish was probably too fragile to survive in the level of Fish Environment that you have. Only the common fish (those that you can get from the common eggs) will remain completely healthy in a Level 1 Fish Environment. Creating hybrid fish before you have a Fish Environment that will support them will usually result in dead fishies along the way. The way to succeed in Fish Tycoon, and find all of the magic fish, is to carefully breed and sell fish that will survive in your tanks, in order to finance improvements in your fish-breeding operation (better Fish Environment, plants, advertising, etc.). Those improvements will allow you to breed the better (and more valuable) hybrids.

Unfortunately, if you bred your magic fish with a different species of fish, it's unlikely that the babies will be magic. There are over 400 species of fishies in the game, only 7 of which are magic fish.

You need to research and research before you even think about breeding. If not you'll lose fish right, left and centre.

Well, technically, you have to breed (and sell) fishies to make any money. If you don't, you won't be able to afford to research anything. You just have to be careful about which species you cross-breed in order to avoid creating the fragile hybrids until you have better Fish Environment.

I think the fastest way to do this is to at first breed lots of greenfin spotanus. I can get them to sell in the range $75 - 90. When you're just starting out, you might have to buy a few batches of common eggs before you get 2 of them. Then breed, breed, and sell like mad, and with all that money, research the environment, and get up to level three. then you will get more of the magic fish to survive in your tank.

I agree with that approach, except for one thing: If you (no I lol) keep buying batches, when able, to find that little greenfinned monster, he is always the last one to materialize. When I'm not trying so hard, he pops up just like that! I know, the answer's obvious.

Another great way is to breed a bunch of speckled leaffish. There are 8 different combinations that can get it using only common fish:

Twinfin Spotanus x orange fruitfish
Twinfin Fruitfish x orange spotanus
Twinfin Beta x orange stickfish
Twinfin stickfish x orange beta
Greenfin beta x spined stickfish
Greenfin stickfish x spined beta
Greenfin fruitfish x spined spotanus
Greenfin spotanus x spined fruitfish

Speckled leaffish will last between 110 - 130 or so years in a tank with no environment research and no seahorse. that's long enough for lots of breeding. And if you sell off the older ones first and keep the younger ones you'll have no problem. I can get over $100 per speckled leaffish.

Personally, I also like the Greenfins After your done mass producing them to fund your research, You can keep 1 in each tank to increase the # of babies from each mother. Which you will love when you discover more valuable fish!
