My very first game ... both wife (lawyer) and husband (I forgot what job he had) each had 3 copyright infringements before I got frustrated and deleted that family. <edit: fixing wording>

Now the 2nd generation son of my next family has had 2 copyright infringements (translator) today.

What might be up with this issue? Is it supposed to happen a lot like what my experience has been?

This issue (for me anyway) is really frustrating. BOTH times (for my 2nd gen guy) he was close to his next level of paygrade.

I've had it happen twice so far and I thought that was alot. Someone should really look into this.

I had hugh chunks taken out as backtaxes several times from the same family when they were trying to save for the third upgrades. I finally learned to start copying my LDW files and pasting them into another folder before answering an email. Then if you get something hugh like that taken from you you can copy / paste them back into your LDW folder.

Because I've had huge amounts taken for taxes as well, along with having the OP's problem several times now too. I just want to make sure that if I copy that folder, that's the one I would put back if that happened.

Copyrights? o.o I don't get it.

Some of the jobs, such a lawyer or technical writer, etc. will have it so you get an email and it says that some other person who works in the same field as you (so, another lawyer or another technical writer) is claiming that you "stole" their work. Well, not you of course, but your little person. That's called "plagiarism" but "copyright infringment" is similar. Basically it's stealing another person's work or ideas.

So, what happens is there is an email claiming that your little person has done this and then your little person loses all the progress that they have made on that career level. So, if your little person is on level three and the bar is almost filled up to reach level four, it wipes out all the progress and it's back to the very beginning of the level three bar.

That's what the first person was talking about and it actually happens A Lot in this game, which is extremely frustrating.

happens alot in all of my games too, I didnt know there was a career for a lawyer though. i haven't come across that one yet

Yep -- the top pay for the Lawyer is $300 a day. I can't remember what they start at, I think it's $90 per day though.

I just did the backup procedure for the first time, but when I went back to the game the email was gone. Is that supposed to happen?

I have 2 peeps in 2 different games that keep getting nailed with complaints. 1 of them is 55 and has been stalled at level 3 because every time she is ready to advance she gets popped with a complaint. The other did eventually make it to master despite getting "complaints" 7, yes SEVEN times! He still gets them but since he is a master now it doesn't matter. I think its similar to real life, some people are good workers, and others cut corners and do other things that cause them to get demoted or fired.

That happened to one of my families.I dont think they will ever quit having bad luck.

I started backing mine up too and the same thing happened to me -- the email was gone when I went back into my game. Dont' know if it was going to be one of those types of emails or something good, but personally, I'm so tired of my peeps losing all their progress that I really don't care.

Oh, and that has happened three times now so I figure out that next time, before I open my game I will back it up first. That way I can open the emails and then if they are bad, I'll put the back up in place and if they are good, great! It's just that now I have to try to remember to do that before I open my game -- which might be hard to remember, lol!

I think the infringement email is random. I have all game slots running with a variety of jobs and they've all gotten hit with that email. It's frustrating and doesn't add to the experience. While we're at it that earthquake event is also VERY annoying. Just when I had all my floors fixed after 3 generartions mind you because the store rarely carries the floor repair kit, bang! Earthquake ruined all my floors again. Hate that earthquake. Now I buy the floor kit even if my floors are fixed and keep it around in case.

I, too, have all my game slots working on families and each family has had at least one hit for the infringement.

I'm asking nicely... of y'all that make the game... try to cut back the ratio/percentage of getting hit with this problem. It's REALLY REALLY frustrating when this happens - especially as much as I'm reading it does.

Is this deliberate?

I've just started pausing and exiting the game when I get an email. Then I just log back in and the email is gone. Those infringement emails are SO bad that NO good email could possibly make up for all the damage they cause. It's better to just forego emails altogether.

Deb, you're right....I'm going to start doing that when I get emails. There's rarely any good ones anymore since I've gotten them all. Grandpa's whining about his tooth, Sam whining from the hospital or rubbing it in your face he married a supermodel scientist, grandma and her $10 gift card and all that spam....I'll forego emails too.

What I did though was just close the game ... and did NOT hit the "OK" button. From what I can tell the job advancement loss did not take affect.

I'm sorry if that is considered cheating or whatnot... but that specific problem... is a pain in the south end of a north bound cow... <lol>

I just upgraded today, so I don't know if it will still work, but I found on version 1.01 that if some email event happens that you don't like (copyright infringement, Uncle Denny having to go to the dentist, etc) if you close out of the game before closing the email it's like it never came. I've saved more career progress and money that way than I could've hoped for.

In my first generation, my rocket scientist had it happen to her 3 times, every time when she was close to the next level. She never was able to go beyond the fifth level ($168). The next generation the son is a camera repairer and has been knocked back twice already. I also seem to be getting the "gotchya" notice from the IRS in the second generation a lot (4 times) Makes it real hard to save money. I seem to be spending all my time having the children find collectables to sell.

I'm not sure if this is spoiler details but...After this happened to me several times, I just stop checking the emails until my peeps reach level 8. I also noticed that if I playing late (after 10PM) I was getting the IRS back taxes email so I stopped checking email after 9:45pm. Seems to solve that problem. I do suggest that you buy the "trade mags" when they are in the store. If you have upgraded to level 2 in the Kitchen, office and workshop - having your peeps "read" the mags jumps them almost to level 2 of career without them even working.

I never received one of these emails until 10 minutes after I read this thread today! You people cursed me! Good thing my man had just been promoted and didn't lose much progress!

Haven't had the copyright infringement happen yet, but have been hit hard several times by the IRS. Gee, and the best I've done is won $100 in a photo contest, lol. Reminds ya of real life, doesn't it?!

The emails are like the gong in VV2.I dont read the emails anymore.I dont hit the gong in my VV2 anymore.

My person is a mail order baker. The other a food critic. I don't even know where or what they do to go to work for this. I had him work in the kitchen, pull the weed, water flowers. I was gone from the game about 2 hrs. Come back and he had a copyright infringement? For what? I don't even think I have them doing what they are suppose to do cause I have no idea. What do I do now?

The copy write infringement is just a minor annoyance. Other professions have their own little "penalty."

No matter what profession your person is, they will work in 1 of 3 areas. The office, the kitchen or the workshop.

If you drop a person in the wrong area, they will do everyday tasks like prepare a meal, work on a hobby, or check email.

When you drop them in the area they are supposed to work, they will begin "working on career."

Never happened to me,does it apply to specific careers?
