Obviously you use your computer as a toy and not a tool. That's fine. I use mine as a tool. Some major (and common) app types that are affected adversely by time-travel are calendaring and personal information management utilities. Many, many adults use these tools in their daily lives. Changing the time on my computer would make me miss meetings, appointments and deadlines. I depend on my calendar and project management timelines being right in order to get through my work week sanely. Games like VF are just a fun diversion when I take a break.

My original point was that if you are not the sole user of your computer then you should leave well enough alone, unless you're sure that the other users will be OK with you changing things that may affect their experience. If your computer is merely a platform for games (just a toy) then it's less likely to cause problems, but I wouldn't make any assumptions along those lines. If someone in my household messed with my computer's time in order to play a *game* due to a lack of patience and self-control, I would be (rightfully) livid.

All I'm saying: exercise common sense, good judgment and courtesy to others.

All of my siblings and I time-travel, and I'll admit that sometimes the store won't restock for a while, but we can deal with that. We don't own any programs on the computer that would get messed up, so we do it guilt-free (lol)

Its is fine if you want to time-travel. To make a blanket statement that its okay is absolutely wrong to do and mis-guided. There are many reasons why one shouldn't and the most important is if there are others who use the same computer.

There are programs on my computer like calendars that are affected when someone plays with the system clock.

I'll say this, if my kids (who use my computer) moved my system clock; I would be quite angry. So angry that they would be banned from the computer.

I have question to time-travellers (or those who advise to travel at will)...what do your parents or the person who provided the computer, the game being played, the computers upkeep and repairs think of time-travelling? laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

That's really a rhetorical question laugh

The point I would like to add is whether T-T is harmful or not is really just a matter of debate, obviously laugh , what is not under debate is that it is an activity that is not supported in these forums. So to continue to discuss what has been clearly said is not "approved" is just inviting negative feelings. It's like a manners-thing laugh

Okay, I'm done laugh

Personally I see nothing wrong with time travelling, but to each his own of course. I've never had a problem with it in-game nor has it caused my laptop or other programs any harm. And I do use my laptop for work- I just make sure I time travel "sensibly".

That means only changing the time a little bit at once, then pause the game, set the clock back to where it belongs, and do it again. That way the clock never gets much past where it ought to be. I haven't had any problems with the in-game store doing it this way, either.

If people are changing their clock a great deal- many hours at once, or letting extra days accumulate and stuff like that- then yeah I can see where that may be a bad idea if one has things scheduled. I really don't think it could break a computer though or cause it to need any sort of special maintenance!

I never use time travel in Virtual Families, as I don't want to age my little peeps any faster than necessary. The money will come quick enough without resorting to doing it.

However I do have to admit I used time travel in the villager games, as the building projects can be quite mundane, and it takes forever otherwise to get enough tech points to advance. Though I did it as TyphoidMary suggested...only a little at a time...never more than half hour or so. Then you can pause your game and reset the clock without it affecting appointments and such.

i have never done that. i mean, yes the research and stuff takes forever but in the end, i feel like i accomplished something! silly i know, but its how i feel! i read a warning about it, then i was GLAD i had never done it! if i dont feel like just sitting there watching them, i do what im doing right now. i have VV3 running and im waiting to build up some tech points, so i have it in windowed mode, and as u can see im also doing other stuff, mainly looking at the forums lol
