Word of advice: If you're going to "time-travel" only do so if the computer you are playing on is yours and yours alone. Then if you mess up other programs on your computer, only you will be disappointed.

My ex-husband did something similar and turned the clock ahead on a game of his, and basically cheated me out of a free 30-day trial on a program, and turning back the clock didn't give me the free days back, so I bought the program without getting to try it out fully. I was later sorry I'd bought it as it didn't do what I'd been hoping.

(I didn't divorce him because of this, but just a word of caution to those who do change your clock.)

You people really take too much stock in changing the time on the pc. Changing the time may affect this game, but will not harm the pc in any way. Most apps are not time dependent and neither is the OS file system. So, if you want to jump ahead, feel free to.

Keep giving out bad advice; there are kids on here who do not have the administrator rights to correct something that stops working; like anti-virus or the internet. Yes the internet, Comcast seems to get very annoyed when I play with the system clock and stops working.

Advice -- listen to the game developers.

Changing the computer clock won't affect the computer itself in any way, as you say. It will affect the game, in unpredictable and usually bad ways. Feel free to mess with the clock, but don't come whining to LDW or the forum if the game is spoilt. If you must, use a computer not connected to the Internet.

Most apps are not time dependent but some of the most important ones are, such as AV software checking for updates. I've also got a relatively simple program installed on my machine that shows TV schedules for the next few days. I don't want to check what's on then find out that it won't be shown in fact until 10 days hence.

Strangely, adjusting the clock can also mess up some printer cartridges...it seems odd I know, but it's true.

And having to go get new cartridges just to speed up a game is a pretty expensive move laugh

Beth, that is horribly expensive. I thought it was a coincidence at first with Comcast. Nope, everytime I played with the system clock; I had to shut down computer and reboot. It was a pain in the you know what.

My understanding is that it may be true that adjusting the PC clock will not damage your OS directly...BUT it will affect many programs that keep your OS running smoothly...in this way adjusting your clock DOES affect your OS indirectly. I was unable to find the thread where LadyCF names several of the particular systems, but please keep this in mind...

The programmers/developers at LDW are HIGHLY knowledged in computer systems, also there are several members who are very impressive in their knowledge of systems...and they are STRONGLY advising that you SHOULD NOT adjust your systems clock for gaming purposes. They give this advise for NO other reason than for the players benefit and they have ALOT of experiance in this area. Their experiance with thousands of players and thousands of programs tells them that this action IS NOT a good idea.

Regular members, like me smile , don't recommend it for the "cheat" aspect. We like to help one another progress in the games and if it is found that adjusting the clock is the cause of a players problem, it IS NOT supported by anyone. So, if a problem does arise, frequently there is no help to be given.

It's true that even if you mess up your OS the end of the world will not come...but, it is an EXTREMELY expensive and inconvenient result that could easily be avoided by just playing the game as it was designed to be played. Kindof like bungy-jumping...a thousand times may be just fine, but the one time there is a problem with the equiptment you can find yourself in a huge mess.

Adjusting the clock is just not worth the possible consequences.

So, your right, players are free to make the choice to adjust the clock...they are also free to pick up a hammer and smash their PC to pieces...but DO NOT expect to find help or sympathy with problems or game advancement arising from this choice.

As an end point, you really should take care in the advise you give players...some players are very young and/or very unexperianced in computer systems and are unable to resolve problems with AV and other software and are not financially capable of replacing any damaged programs. Please just keep that in mind, especially when you are condradicting the repeated advise of very experianced gamers.

I (still) play Catz5, and I change my clock all the time to speed up pregnancies. smile

It's all based on your system. If you don't know what's going on with your system or what you could mess up, you probably shouldn't do it. If you don't care, then what the hey, go ahead!

In my case I know what I'm doing and time travel doesn't hurt me or my PC at all. But I think if you don't have the confidence or knowledge to fix anything that may possibly happen... don't do it, or have your tech guy on the phone waiting.
