Hi, I was just wondering how many pets a family can own, and what kind of pets there are available to buy. I've seen a turtle and a dog in the store so far, and read a forum reply in another thread, someone talked about a cat. And furthermore, is a dog more fun then a turtle? Or can you do the same things with both. These answers might help me about deciding what pet I should get for my family ^_^

you are only allowed one animal at a time. if you buy one and then try to buy another it will ask you if you want to replace your current pet. all i have seen is the dog, cat and turtle. and the family doesn't interact with any of them. the dog will follow your peeps around. and i have heard that the cat will scratch on the couch but thats about it.

That is kinda a disappointment to be honest.. I thought pets could do more, like letting your kids take care of them, feeding, petting.. that kinda stuff. Mehh.. Maybe in VF2. :P Thanks for your reply.. I think I'm going to check out what the turtle does, the cat doesn't sound really appealing to me destroying the furniture, and the dog just sounds annoying in my opinion haha

The turtle does basically nothing. You'll see.

I still haven't bought anything, I saw the cat in store this afternoon, but I didn't had the money for it. Now I do, and it's gone.. so I'm going for either the dog or cat, just what is first in store.. and might change for the other when I have my newer family.. unless I get attached to that bunch of pixels that is :P Thanks for your answers everyone

Since the pets are so expensive, I have started waiting until the second generation to get them. I use the money for getting the stuff needed for trophies (perfume, DVDs, grill, pool, etc) for the first generation.

Dogs and cats follow family members around, and will sit with them and sleep in bed with them. Also pets don't "die" like elderly peeps do. I've had pets that I got in the first generation and it is now 4th gen in several of my families and the original pet is still around. If you figure the average life span (from inheriting the house to death) is about 30 or 35 years, the pets are now older than 60 people years old. I could see that if they were birds... but dogs and cats? Wow.
Don't know if turtles do the same as - follow, sit and sleep with the people. Yeah the turtle DOES do all of that except sit. It's hard to tell most of the time because the turtle moves slowly but it'll crawl up into bed with people while they're sleeping.

I finally broke down and got a dog for one of my families. This dog has taken a liking to one of the kids and follows him all over. The dog doesn't follow anyone else just this one boy. The sad part is he chose the oldest boy who is 18 and will be leaving soon so I'm curious to see if he latches on to another person when Snap leaves.
