One of my families have lost/hidden their tv remote somewhere where I can't see it. Has this happened to anyone, or maybe it's a glintch???? I'd sure like to find their remote, as they can't watch the boob tube without it.

I wish mine would lose theirs. Seems like all they do is sneak off to watch TV.

No, it's not a glitch. When the house gets messy, the remote often ends up in another part of the house. Just look around the house for what looks like a tiny black bar.

With one family I couldn't find it for a whole day. They did a great job of hiding it & it was hard trying to find it at night. I waited until day so just keep searching as I'm sure it is there somewhere.

The house is spotless. I've looked for it off and on for about 18 hours now, and it's nowhere to be found. My little couple trys to watch tv when they're tired and can't because the remotes gone. I wish Arthur, Lady, or someone in the know would help...PLEASE! As it is if someone doesn't they'll have that big screen tv without the ability to watch it ever again.

Lewanda, you can turn on the tv, you can turn on the tv yourself by clicking on it. I hope you find the remote back soon. Maybe they will relocate it theirselfs overnight or something.

Lewanda, the remote has been known to be located in some places that make it very hard to find. I suspect that updating from one version to another over the course of the soft launch has introduced some anomalies that are going to be difficult to diagnose. Since you are very comfortable with doing mods, I suggest that you enlarge the remote image (remote.png) considerably. I have done that several times to help locate missing remotes for testers during beta. Increasing the dimensions to at least 220x170 produces a large, albeit pixellated and silly-looking remote that's easily found on the map. Once you know where it is, you should be able to have one of the peeps retrieve it after you restore the original image (so you know where to drop them).

Thanks Sweetheart! You can only click on the tv to turn it on when the remote is on the table. It's been lost for over 24 hours now, and they keep their house and yard stopless. It's not going to show back up unless the creators of the game somehow help me. If they don't I may have to scrub the game after this gen, and it's too bad because this is the third generation for this family.

Did you try the modified image to see if it was visible? I can provide one for you, if you'd rather not make one. One of our testers found the remote in the yard.

If it were somehow in the fridge I don't think you could get them to pick it up. No, it's been gone since I updated to .05. I guess I'll just start over after the old couple die...It's a pity, since they're a fourth generation.

My remotes finally showed up.

Yesterday, both my families misplaced the remote. I know where the remotes are, but haven't let my peeps in on it. With the TV out of the way, they seam to work on their carriers a bit more willingly. Mind you, I had only played the game for 1/2 day when they lost the remote, so I don't really have anything concrete to compare with.

Wondering if any of you noticed a difference in your peeps work behaviour?

They will work good if you give them enough praise from the glove, candy, and fruit (The fruit is best, as it is a way to praise them and also gives them energy.). I buy the fruits and candy every time they show in the store so that I have it when it's needed. Even when my peeps are aged I'll buy it to have when training the next generation.

Anyway, to your question; After your peeps are well trained they need the tv and other forms of recreation to relax. I think it makes them live longer if they do more than just work all the time. If they're doing something and you want them to work just pick them up and place them back at their workstation. In a short time they'll go back to it on their own. I had a lost remote and I have found a solution! Maybe this will help you.

I made a bright background for it, but still could not find it. Then, by accident, I saw it. Look where it was:



The only way to see it was through the tiny, tiny gap between the top of the screen and the tool tray. No wonder I couldn't find it even with the bright background. It was always covered up no matter what!

I had to make a mod to make the tool tray partly transparent before I could finally drop someone in the right place and retrieve the remote.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone!

I have done so, and I located the remote, the problem is that it is Directly behind the inventory bar, so I cannot place my little people on it to get it because the screen moves and the inventory bar is on it again please can u advice, Thanks

no, where can I find it, I managed to remove it somehow, the problem is the remote is on the MOST LEFT of the screen, I cannot manage to drop someone on it to get it, if I did, they drop on the right of the remote, they never drop directly on it :S

Remember to save the real image to a safe place before you use the transparent one, so you can replace it after you grab the remote!

Yeah, it can be hard to drop the people on the remote, especially since the screen refuses to stay still. Keep trying.

yes this is no longer the problem I managed to remove the inventory bar the problem is that the remote is in the most most most left of the screen so my people cant reach for it

Have you tried with a kid? They can usually reach to pick up weeds and collectibles where adults can't.

I had the same problem and even with the transparent inventory bar (thanks Tuna Puzzler) it took many attempts with my tiniest tiny person before I could get the remote.
I was trying to get the remote before seeing the post about the transparent bar and my little Eva found a wrapper I didn't know was there!

I'm thinking of keeping the transparent bar on permanently. I think it's a shame there's all those lovely graphics on the edge of the screen and we can hardly see them.

I lost my remote for 2 days and looked every where. Then on the 3rd day I saw it in front of the collectibles drawer lol

I think I read somewhere that if you get the "maids" event, everything goes back where it should. So if you really can't get it, maybe that is a possible solution. I can't find where I read that though, so it might not be true.

Same happened here! I didn't know it was under the desks, till I propped a kid onto the computer and he came up with the remote.

You can use the attached modded image (it's a HUGE remote) to help you locate it (right-click and choose Save as). Once you know where it is (assuming you find it), you can try to pick it up. We are looking at this issue for a future update.

When I place one of the little family members to retrieve the remote, they don't. At all. This thing is HUGE and it's still the same problem.

Have you tried quitting the game? The remote usually turns up in different locations.

I think Barbara suggested that once you found where the remote was, you replaced the original image again, so that your peep would be able to pick it up.

The remote is never supposed to be in that location, but we don't yet have a solution to that bug. Some people have been able to pick up the "out of bounds" remote after a lot of patient dropping, but apart from that, we don't have any suggestions.

Ok. So...just be patient until a patch is out?

I keep losing my remote also. It is very frustrating. I keep thinking of my Alice Greenfingers game and how you can close the inventory bar. Just a thought.

I lost the remote twice, but it was placed back to place where it should be. But The mommy kept emailing me to find the remote, and yet the remote is still on the table at the living room. Should I ignored it? Clueless!

I guess I was lucky that my peep was able to get the remote out without too much trouble (took a few tries).

Try moving the peep using different methods. Like, try moving it very, very slowly toward the edge, and then gently letting go. Or try kind of throwing it at the edge. Sometimes they "snap" backwards when they're close to the edge, and moving them toward the edge from a different direction can help.

I see where you can find it by downloading a new tool bar and or a huge remote.

I found the remote with the help of your very clear instructions (I am so proud of myself entering into the nether regions of my computer and not blowing it up!)
The remote was under the computer desk.
I had tried to drop my little girl there numerous times, and she just could not get to it.
After changing the large remote back to regular size it was in front of one of the chairs where it was approachable.
This game is fun, and I play it with my six year old grandson.

As an afterword, while he & I were playing the other day, the couple "made a Baby".
He looked at me and said...."Mom & dad jumped on the bed to have Marshall? (his little brother)
Sheesh, Parents sure get away with a lot!"
Needless to say his parents had a talk with him about the difference between Virtual games and real life that night.

Dose anyone have a copy of the original remote. Yes I did make a copy of my images. When I try to pick up the big remote,my peeps won't do it. My husband was helping me with this and I think he deleted the original remote. So now I am stuck with the big on. Please help. I don't want to start over

I did make a copy. Like I said my husband was helping and I think when he copied the remote he also delete it, cause it in not in my back up copy. All other images are but that one.

Here's a copy of the image file with the remote; Though it has been modified. I don't think you'll mind the modifications however. I just changed a few things by making them smaller (such as the coffee cup) and changing some colors. My baby modificaton is one of my favorites, and it's on this image file. Save your orginal image file just in case you decide you don't like this one after installing it. Big hugs!

The one tumble needed was the image of the remote by itself. I've sent that image to tumble

Yes, there is. It's remote.png and it's used to display the remote when it's on the table or laying around the house. The other one is used for when the peeps are carrying it back to its spot on the table.

OOPS! I just took a look and saw that there is. I had just forgotten, as I really haven't been much into the game lately.

By the way, I don't know how I could have forgotten that, because I made mine brighter so it could be seen when they really misplace it.

Will there be an upgrade/patch to deal with that? My family had just had rainbow twins when they lost their remote 'out of bounds' so I really don't want to delete them.

I registered here to say I hope there is a patch for this problem soon. My family's remote is stuck out of bounds in exactly the same spot as the one in the screenshot someone posted earlier with the red arrow. I've tried and tried but my peeps just can't pick it up. I'm on my sixth generation and have over $526,000 so I'd sure hate to start over.

Has anyone tried to retrieve it using full screen? I didn't try this before I restarted my family because of the out of bounds remote.

I've had the out of bounds remote twice now. Both times I was able to retrieve it. It can take several tries.

Try with a child, since they can get closer to the edge.

Make sure the circle under the peep touches the remote with it's bottom edge. That's how I was able to get it both times.

I was in windowed mode both times, so I don't think it needs to be in full screen mode.

Oh trust me, I tried for at least an hour LOL..I had nothing better to do. Tried coming at it from all angles, speeds...even tried to throw em on there. >_< Did this with both the adults and children as well.

I guess I just got lucky then. I don't suppose I need to worry too much about it happening again, since my games on both computers are now upgraded to the latest version.

Mine was updated too when it happened Oh well! That's what backups are for, right?

As long as the TV-related trophies are done, I don't think peeps need the TV anyway. I always chase them away from it.

This happened to me too, I lost it for a few days. I didn't find it until I renamed remote.png from something bigger so I could see it easier (backup the images folder first). I found it in the upper left side in the plants. It was impossible to find because it was hidden behind the item trays. Look there. Good luck.

I have never found the remote outside the house. Does it ever get lost outside, not that I can see why one of the peeps would take it outside, but you never know what they might do. lol

It's a random thing in the game when the remote appears behind the tool tray on the very left side of the game. You might luck out and get the remote after a few tries (best with children) or it might be stuck there until the maid event comes by.

Once it took me ages to find the remote. I finally did and the peep was taking it to the living room. Thing was that I completely forgot about that and moved the peep - then, of course, the remote returned to its hidden place that I, of course, had forgotten where it was. *laughs*

Look on the stairs also -- the remote tends to blend in there. My remote seems to favor the plants in Lewanda's mods. believe it thinks it is a fern leaf!

Thank heavens for this thread! My remote went missing and I looked and looked for it. Now, I'm pretty good at hidden object games, so this was getting frustrating! I remembered this thread and took a look and sure enough, my remote was way over on the left side under the tool tray!

I didn't have much trouble getting it out. I knew it was in a straight line from the corner of the workshop, so I grabbed the youngest, dragged him over to the workshop and straight over the tool tray. Believe it or not, you CAN drop someone under the tool tray!

Actually, that might be a good item to be able to purchase in the next game! If you lost it, you can buy a new one! Maybe an upgraded one that will turn on lights, heat, air conditioning, tv, dvd player...

I LOVE having the tv. If the kids are drawing on the wall or banging dishes, I don't use the glove...I pick them up and put them in front of the tv and give them a pat on the head. There's usually one there when I need someone to pick up a collectable! Different story with the adults though! After 55 they can watch, but not before!!

I use one of the modified interfaces that makes the tool tray transparent. I'm afraid I can't remember which one now, but it's in the Virtual Families Mods forum. It was a fairly early mod, so you may have to set a search to look back several months. Although I haven't - so far - lost the remote, I have spotted a couple of weeds I probably wouldn't have noticed with an opaque tool tray.

Thank you for posting this! I started a post the other day about being crazy looking for my remote. I dragged a child under the tool tray by the shed and after a few tries, she came out with the remote!!

I really, really wish they would create a patch for this. My remote has been stuck out of reach for months now. I've tried hundreds of times to have various peeps pick it up. They just can't do it. Employing the maid service didn't retrieve it either.

Not being able to use the television takes some of the enjoyment away from playing for me. At this stage there isn't much left to do while I wait for a few random things to happen (final bug to show up, winning lottery ticket, etc.). In the past I enjoyed purchasing a movie and seeing the whole family come running to watch it together. Now all I can do is drag them away when they stand "confused" by the coffee table when they want to watch TV.

How very frustrating!

I have the clear tray so it's no problem for me to see the remote. I can drop peeps on it in such a way that they should be able to pick it up. They don't, though, so the frustration continues.

Coleslaw, I had this same problem. I made a backup copy of my remote.png file and renamed the outsideChair.png to remote.png. The remote now looked like a chair and was BIG, I had no trouble picking it up and carrying it back to the coffee table. Once there, I renamed the outsideChair.png back to remote.png to look normal again.

Thanks so much for your help, Cheron. I did as you suggested. I made a backup copy of my remote.png file then renamed the outsideChair.png file to remote.png. Now the chair is where the stuck remote was. I've dropped peeps on the chair a few dozen times now. Not only will they not pick it up, they act like they don't even "see" it.

I had a tough time trying to reach the remote once and ended up starting a new family out of frustration.. the second time it happened, I was able to retrieve it using a child:



There might be two sides to this glitch, one that is reachable and the other that just makes the remote non-existant to the game. Either way, I keep backups of my save files just in case another glitch happens so I can just revert to the progress from the day earlier.

I don't know if that's an idea or not, but what if you get this mode that you can actually see (like that one Lyss is using above) and see if you can reach the remote with a child?

Thanks for the suggestion, *Moonlyght*, but I got the clear tray a couple of months ago and have spent many hours dropping both children and adults on the remote. It simply won't work even when I get a peep in what looks like perfect alignment.

After two months of frustrated trying, I'm about ready to give up. I think Lyssaria must be right in her suspicion that there is a glitch that makes the remote non-existant to the game.

Lyssaria, I envy your game backups. I wish I had done that. Of course I had no idea I might encounter a glitch like this one. At this point I'm on my 14th generation and have about $95 million. The thought of starting all over doesn't much appeal to me.

I really do wish the makers would issue a patch to fix this problem. I'd sincerely appreciate it if they'd let us know if one is in the works. I'll try to hold out a little longer but this frustration is really getting to me.

I was hoping for a patch as well as I lost my first family although that got me to start my new one which is way more personal to me I named the founders after me and my fiancé.. it's great fun to visit my dad and show him his great great great great etc grand children! It's because of this that I started using the backups.

You can keep trying the clear console now and then as it wouldn't be worth starting all over. I know mine was stubborn no matter how I tried, but there's not much to do in this situation.

I'm very attached to this family I'm playing with for the same reason Lyssaria pointed: the founder are named after me and my husband (in fact named after our nicknames) - and the peeps kinda look like us.

I'm about to get my last trophy and my husband asked what am I going to do when this happens. I was thinking of starting a new game with the rainbow girls but it's so difficult to think of leaving this one!

I know exactly what you're feeling, coleslaw.

Maybe if you save a backup of this game and wait for a patch? You can start a new one, but save this game for later on?

Sorry coleslaw, that's weird. You could try a different item to rename remote.png, like say the barbeque.png and see if you can pick up that item. Be sure to close the game entirely while you are renaming these files as it is possible you can corrupt the game if you try to overwrite the files while they are in use.

If this doesn't work then something is definitely corrupted and the only other option is to back up your familysave files (Virtual Families1.ldw, etc) and re-install the game, then copy your familysave files back to the newly installed game so you keep your same family info.

coleslaw, I had a game that I had to delete, because my remote completely disappeared from the game. I tried for about a week and finally gave it up. It's sad when you've gotten a game that far then have to scrap it. It really would be nice if they would make a patch, as you said, to fix that problem. I hope somehow you still may be able to retrieve yours.

For those of you who believe that changing the image will help, it will only help you find it visually. The problem is when it gets in that glitched area in the yard under your toolbar. Sometimes we are able to pick it up after a few tries, while other times it seems to just not be in the game anymore.

Think of it this way.. there are two pieces of the remote, the first being what we see (the .png image) and the second being the programming in the game. If you enlarge the remote and drop your person on it, they may not lift it because you missed the programming part. It's good for finding the remote in the first place, but it makes it even more difficult to pick it up in that one tough spot.

I just dropped a child on it like suggested in earlier postings.

In one of my families the TV remote is missing entirely. I looked everywhere for it and even outside surrounding areas and it is nowhere to be seen. I believe that one of the kids have hidden it so I not able to locate it, or is this some sort of bug. The remote is lost forever? I'm as as they are.

I entirely lost the remote one time too. So I renamed the bbq.png file to remote.png file, which turned the remote image into the barbecue image. I had no trouble finding it then and when it was put back on the coffee table, I renamed the image file back to remote.png. It turned out that it was sitting on the side of one of the kids beds which in the mod I'm using is black, I couldn't see it because it was black too! Any large .png file will work to replace the remote.png so you can find it, just make sure you make a backup of remote.png first so you can rename it back after it's located.

Renaming the remote.png file only helps in locating the remote. I understand there is also a glitch on the remote where it can't be picked up from in the bushes outside.

I will do that and see how it goes the only thing that this one is on my laptop and not my computer. I believe that I could get the mod and put it on a disk to transfer it to my laptop. I got it on my computer as well but none have I lost the remote at least.

Hi Ann, you don't need a mod to locate the remote, all you need are the original image files which installed when you originally installed the game on your laptop. In Windows look for your .png files in the IMAGES folder under PROGRAM FILES\VIRTUAL FAMILIES. It is best to make a separate folder called something like BACKUP IMAGES or IMAGES BACKUP and copy all of the files from your IMAGES folder into your backup folder, the backed up image files are sacred ground and one day you may be happy you have copies of these original files. You'll find the .png files you need in the IMAGES folder. Good luck.

Thank you I found the remote and if I not read the first post I would not have thought of looking at the right far end of the screen. It was a very tricky remover to get someone to pick it up. I had to pause the game and lucky enough there was a weed next to it in the same area. So I dropped one family member behind the tool tray just beyond the weed and she retrieved it. Now they can watch TV after not for the last 3 days.

Do you mean you can't get it as in it's in a spot your peeps can't reach or you can't find it? If you can't find it here are a few different mods that change it to a different color to make it easier to see. If you have dark floors I recommend the silver remote. Just substitute the mod remote for the original remote.png and you're on your way. Make sure you make a copy of the original remote first if you want to save it.

Here's a thought: Open your game in full screen mode and place a child as close to the remote as possible so that a portion of their "selection circle" is touching the remote. It might work, might not but certainly worth a try. I once lost my remote for days and 1 day it turned up in a new place.

I wonder if the maid event will work on the remote.
In the meantime I guess it's "Turn Off the TV Week" for your peeps.

Laurence, it's a modded remote, I have the same one. Here's a screenshot showing that it is different from the coin. Evidently the remote can end up under the tray and was posted about since May 2009. Also, collectibles disappear after a short time if not picked up, Zelena's remote did not. Hope this helps to clear things up and that Zelena's remote moved to a more accessible location and she was able to retrieve it.

But it's the 1st time that I see a remote outside of the house. Mine are always inside!
Or it was stuck on the tray?
