Feedback is welcome on the look, especially the villager.

I very much like the look of the palm trees and beach here but the villager looks a little 'cartoony' in comparison.

I don't think you need to change the look, but maybe turn down some of the colours might do the trick.

I like it - it sort of reminds me of something I had when I was a kid (long, long time ago) but I can't remember what. With those sort of colours, it'll be harder to "lose" villagers.

The villager looks a bit like a cabbage patch doll!

So give them colourful clothing.

I think that it is possible to make the villagers stand out quite well doing that, rather than give them bright pink faces and red hair.

The thing is, if you wnat the game to be cartoony, then make the background a little cartoony too - more of a cel-shaded effect perhaps.

It probably comes across that I am preferring the 'realistic' look but I'm not, I'm suggesting that I would like to see a more cohesive look.

Yes, a more cohesive look is in order. But if the palm tree/beach scene is any indication of the quality of the entire village background, then I wouldn't change the background one bit! It's gorgeous!

I will have to agree with everyone so far. The environment that is pictured looks awesome! I can't wait until it comes out. The villager on the other hand does appear to be out of place. I would try and play around with the skin color some (less yellow??). Eyes look good. Lips are too big and red. Do the villagers make their own makeup?? What if the lips we simply lines. Due to the size of the villagers it would be hard to make realistic lips, so simply have lines should do the trick. It would then be easier to show emotion (happy, grumpy, yelling, and just get'n the business done)

Hmmm - they tend to go inside a hut for that in my game...

Definitely prefer a more cohesive looks for all the elements involved. Will the huts, stone idol, temples etc be cartoony like the villagers? If yes, then probably better to make the background more cartoony.

A Sparkly Wizard's Hat?

I wish the other on-line game I play had those! My wizard would be the talk of the town!

Toning down the cartoony look of the villager would certainly make it fit better with the background. But don't spend too long doing that - we're all waiting for this to come out!

I definitely agree with Buttoneer. The villager's basic form is true to the original game on the Palm, and so very appropriate IMHO, but the colors do make her stand out a bit too much from the background. Toning the colors down on the villager would be very desireable. Being able to keep track of the villagers has always been one of the game's challenges to me, anyway.

The shadow looks very good! If the nigth, by any chance, exists, see how that shadow moves will be SHOCKING!

Now, the villager. It has a very thin gray (?) line around its head. But only in the head. The body seems like a doll sitting there.

Very nice.

Oohhhhh VS for Windows gimme gimme gimme..and gimme for Mac too lol.

SO excited!!!

As far as that screenshot goes, I agree with the general comment that the background and villager don't seem to mesh well. One of the things I love about the Palm version though is that everything is very cartoony. But's NICE cartoon - beautifully drawn. I'd prefer to see that remain more true. The current background is really nice but it looks like something taken from real life and then the villager was drawn in over it. I'd tone UP the background to make it appear more "drawn" and be cohesive with the villager.

Just my personal preference!

Ohhh and gimme!

I'll also aggree that while the background does look awesome, the little girl is out of place in comparison. Better to tone down the background than to have them not match... The hand pointer to her looks promising though!!

I think we need to see more... ya know, to make a better evaluation.

Seriously though, overall first impressions make all the differenc between a great game, and one that is spectacular... Many people base purchase by what they see in portal screenshots. I'd go with what is already awesome, and ramp the not-so-sure stuff up to it.

As everyone else has already said. I love the background. Villager is a little creepy. I do love the bright colors though. Sometimes it is hard to see the villagers when looking at it in map view. It would be nice to have them in diff. colors to determine who is who. Maybe an add in could be that we get to pick what color of clothing they wear. That way if someone wanted all females in pink and males in blue and children in green. Or whatever.

Would it be inappropriate for me to say that I love your bush?

I also quite like the grumpy faces with their cro-magnon eyebrows.

The colours of the outfits are also waaaaaaay better than the first pic - much more sober and, considering the game environment, much more appropriate.

Great stuff all round.

YES! YES! YES! That's what I'm talking about. Looks good, I can't wait until it gets released. The only thing that stands out is the pale faces. Almosy ghostly white. Coming along though, I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Yes I agree - the game looks lovely, but the villager doesn't look like they belong in the same games as the background.

I've seen this some in indie games - the backgrounds are detailed and "sort of realistic" and then the characters are sort of cartoony. In my opinion, the disparity between the background and the characters can be a bit jarring.

I am interested in seeing how it turns out. When it's out we'll never have to be away from Village Sim. That little game sure is addictive!

----------

Wait - I was looking at an old picture - I love the new picture!!!! Both villagers and the background - the fit together much better.

I havent even been playing this game for more than a day and i love what im reading and im glad to see a PC port of this game as (just me) i think the screen is just too dang small and sometimes if i play for a couple hours my eyes start to hurt. Anyhow my only question...

Will you have to buy another reg code to play on PC if you already bought the game for PalmOS. Ill gladly trade my palm OS for a PC key when and if the time comes soon.

Last i saw was 80% that is great news, can't wait this game is terribly addicting. The only thing i would add is another speed level called faster, or something for those of us who like to sit in front of the palm and concentrate on it, when your sitting right there, even fast, is rather slow sometimes. Just a thought.

Only problem is i left it on fast over lunch break for an hour and 2 people died...something about a monkey i didnt pay much attention i should have. Ug..

Oh, well, I did it already some days ago. Since you people were talking about the WIN version, I thought it could be interesting to know about a possible release for the Mac. The developing is still at 72%, and I have signed in for any news. I simply wanted to know if there were some "rumours" about it. Thank you very much for the fast answer.
Bye,

The page that I provided a link to in my post is more current than some of the others that are available on the site. If you follow that link, you'll see that the progress is much higher than 72% now!

You might check out this thread and the previews page for the latest on the Windows version.

At this time, the only version of the game that is available is the Palm version, but you didn't seem to want to talk about that!
