It is just random, I think. As I posted earlier on a different thread, I had over half of all of the other collectibles before I found my first bug (centipede). Then later that same day, I found the grasshopper. That one is hard to see because it is green. Then nothing for a couple of days. And then three bugs in a row (within seconds of each other), two were uncommon. None since.
