That's a picture of the family tree in the second generation. The couple at the top are the first generation, with their children, and the couple under that is the second generation, with their children. The line going from the child at the top to the man in the second couple shows the child who was chosen to inherit the house.

Oooh okay. So the first mother had 5 children nd the second mother had 4. Okay I got it. Thanks a bunch cause for a minute I was like she had 9 kids? Goodness.
