My single girl hasn't been able to find a suitable mate and is a bit blue, so I thought buying her a cat would help her mood. All it does is follow her around though, and she doesn't even acknowledge that it's there. You can't even select the pet or anything...it just wanders around without the occupants of the house knowing it's there. I feel like I wasted her hard earned money in buying it for her. frown

They don't notice the new clothes you buy them either, plus they lose the outfit they were wearing when you buy another. It would be nice if they could keep all the clothes you buy in the game....A real disapointment! frown

I just tried the baby boost. Just another waste of their hard earned money. Real bummer!

EDIT: THE BABY BOOST DOES WORK AFTER ALL smile
It took several tries (about an hour and half), but she finally did get pregnant with triplets...which is what I wanted since they're in their forties and may not be able to have more.

the baby boost is supposed to make her maybe have twins or triplets. but it wont make her have a kid on her own. she needs a man for that. just like in real life!

I love the cat I got my family. The first thing it did was walk out to the birdhouse and lie around, I guess waiting for a snack. Then one of my peeps went out there to call the birds (what are the odds). When the bathroom faucet started leaking, the cat followed my peep to assist with the repair and sprawled right in the puddle -- not afraid of water I guess! Since this is a cat we're talking about, I don't think it would pay attention even if you tried to interact with it...

I know my real ones don't, but when they try to interact with you, you better pay attention. laugh

Hey, some of us are single gals with cats in real life - and, believe it or not, happy that way!

The pets seem to rotate through the Misc. store section, it took a while for the dog to show up. The dog likes to sleep with the youngest of the family.

I have to agree with you about thinking pets are a waste of virtual money. I have the turtle and it always wanders outside where it looks like a collectible at first glance. I wouldn't mind it if I could move it, but I can't.

Do the pets affect the happiness of the family? Maybe they provide a happiness boost? Does anyone know?

Not that I have noticed. In fact, they didn't even celebrate getting it. There is zero notice from the family.

The dog seems to like sleeping with the kids, and the cat sits in laps. Maybe the boost is there, but only at those times, or maybe because the pet is around longer than the "instant" items like candy, the boost amount is a smaller amount.

Hi Ester! The baby boost isn't garanteed to work the first time. It's supposed to have a permanent effect, so maybe next time they'll make twins or triplets. By the way, I did get a set of triplets using it and am delighted with them. smile

Her happiness bar did come up after getting the cat, but it was slow. She has a husband and son now and is very happy, so I'm satified the way it all turned out.

Hi Alex! Her happiness level did go up a bit in time. I'm not sure that the cat had anything to do with it though, as she doesn't even seem to know that it's there.

I had to chime in on this topic again...

Ok, the turtle was completely useless and annoying as I said before. But I replaced it with the cat and I love it. The cat follows the people around and lies down in places where a real cat would lay (middle of the bed, against the wall on the porch, on a step).

I keep thinking my turtle is a collectable!! But it's not sadly.
It was sleeping on one of the kids beds earlier inside it's shell, I really had to look closely to figure out what it was. Haha.

I have a cat that keeps following around my child who dislikes running. The cat keeps having to stop and sit to keep from passing the kid.

My peoples cat was lying on their bed when they were trying for a baby. They stomped all over her, but she just kept lying there. LOL!

My cat is actually 'scratching the couch' !! Naughty, but pretty realistic. Luckily it doesn't seem to ruin the furniture, since we are not able to buy new furniture. (And I think that really is a pitty!)

Nope, haven't seen that yet. I'll stay on the look-out for that!

Most funny position for the turtle, I think, is when he (she?) 'sleeps' on the weightscale laugh

I have a family that has a dog. Once I saw it turning circles before lying down. That was cute! smile I have another family with the cat. She scratches the furniture too. This is the cutest thing I've seen her do yet though: They had four kids and adopted an orphan. She took up to the orphan and follows him everywhere he goes. I thought that was the cutest thing...like she could sense that he needed the affection or something. smile

Hi, all -
Love this game too. Now I want a pet. None in the store right now - maybe after the little one is born.

I got a cat! Also just had baby #2, now the cat follows Mom & babe around, and sits on babe when mom sits. Hope babe doesn't get smothered!!!
