Just bought vv2 off itunes. I know this doesn't specifically apply to the ipod/iphone version but does a villager with a higher skill level in science make more tech points when researching? (would an adept scientist make more than a trainee scientst)

Yes. All villagers will be more productive as they reach the higher skill levels.
