When used directly into the tank itself, it doesn't seem to resolve a direct change. However, when used on a fish, it 'mutates' that fish. I used it on one of my magic fish, the "Crimson Comet" and the result changed it into a Golden Comet.

Also, so people are aware. The news article that was posted about the complete list of Magic fish has inaccurate information in the list of fish required to make the magic breed fish. The list they have below the #4 Magic fish are coming up as the Crimson Comet instead of the Oriental Goldbulb. Just so everyone has a heads up, just refer to the "Database" for the correct combinations instead.

Also, I've noticed that the "Database" hasn't completed its compilation of fish and fin combinations for all the possable combinations. None of the Magic Breed Cross Breeds are listed in the list. Meaning if you want to cross breed the Crimson Comet with the Greefin Spotanus, the list wont show you what you will get. Instead, you'll have to rely on good ole fashion faith, or someone else's list of what those may be.

Could you provide the location of the "news article" that you're referring to, so that the information can be corrected (or at least a disclaimer put in the appropriate place)? Pretty much everything in the forums has beed submitted by people who are playing the game, and are not the work of LDW. There have certainly been errors in those submissions in the past.

The error was on behalf of an article written in the form of a tip for what the different magic fish in the game were. The tip concluded with a listing of the magic fish, and a few of the possable combinations that it took in order to make them. However, if you take note of the #4 Magic Fish Entry in the 'tip' article, then you'll notice that the listing there for the Oriental Grouper are highly inaccurate, and merely point to more combinations that are possable to create the Crimson Comet.

The following is a link to the 'tip' article.
http://compsimgames.about.com/od/fishtycoonstrategy/qt/magicbreedcombo.htm

Please do note that it isn't something that has to do with someone here in the forums, its specifically an article that was made easily accessable to anyone seeking to know the possable combinations for the magic fish in the game. I wanted to make sure that anyone here was made aware that that article was infact slightly misleading. I also fully intend to inform the people of the website of the error, and seek a resolution, or a fix for the errors discovered.

Thanks for providing the link! That way people will know about that particular page's inaccuracy. As far as I know, all of the listings in the Fish Tycoon Guide section of LDW's forums are accurate (but many are not complete - I guess the people who created them never finished)!

Well, it would take time to fully create any truly complete compilation of the possable combinations in the game as it is. However, I've yet to see anything in these forums thats been inaccurate. I'm actually shocked to have found that article was inaccurate considering the source was supposed to be an expert in the Simulation Game's area of game advice. Her Bio itself says as much.

I am glad however to have been able to assist anyone else with the information that I uncovered reguarding the "Unknown Chemical". I can't help but wonder how many people sat and stared at it like I did thinking "What in the world would you do to my fish?". I found out the hard way and lost a 546 hour old Crimson Comet that got mutated into a 546 hour old Golden Comet. I can say however that it might have a very good result if your looking for a different fin type for a fish. Say if your looking for a Canary Comet and have the money to spend, you could experiment on that comet by giving him a drop of the chemical and hope. Then again, it could also be a waste of time, but you might get lucky.

I'll stop babbling now.
