I think that I'm noticing a trend here but, I figured I'd ask the Fish Tycoon guru's before I really obsessed about it. Whenever I have a tank with 15+ fish in it I get very few if any babies. My question is: Will to many fish in the tank cause my fish fertility fiasco?

It's not really a fertility issue, but rather a space issue. In the Windows version you can have a maximum of 21 fish (or 20 fish and the seahorse) in each tank. If babies are born into a crowded tank, any babies that are born after the limit is reached will be 'eaten' by the other fishies! So, if you have, say 15 fish and the seahorse in your tank and make all 15 fish pregnant, 5 babies will be born and survive, and 10 babies will be 'eaten' by the other fish.

At least we don't have to SEE it happen, as in the case of a real aquarium!

Yanno, I found it a little easier to delete the sick fish I didnt want to spend $$ on after that! All I had to do was picture them eating poor baby fish!!

lol... I sometimes felt that way with REAL fish too! I'd get so mad at them for going to all that trouble to find just the right spot to lay eggs, tend the eggs so carefully, for what seemed like forever... then, when they would hatch, it was like... "mmmm, look! Cheetos!"

Wow, Thanks for the mental picture of your "psycho" themed fish tank ;o)

I will NEVER look at a fish the same way again! lol

Fortunately, I never saw any blood. Baby fish are more like "popcorn shrimp" to the adult fish. No mess, just one gulp and they're gone. (yuck!)

I have found very hard to count the fish in one of the tanks to determine if it could handle more babies. So what I have done is set up one tank with just the breeder fish (usually no more then eight) and as they have babies, move the offspring to the other tank. If that tank has reached its limit it will tell you and will not move any more fish to it. I’ll then use my sale tank to hold babies and move them out before I click on the sell button.

Yeah, I do that too. It's a little more time consuming, chasing those teeny babies around and dragging them to the Sale Tank tab, but it's worth it in the long run. Only when they are getting close to maturity, do I even have to worry about them while in the Sale tank, because they don't sell until they reach maturity.

I try to buy the extra tank as soon as possible, so that I can keep one tank for breeders, one tank for keepers, and the Sale tank for babies and sell-offs.

When I was new in the game it was best to put all babies in the sell so i could make money when they grow and i dont have to move them around there already in the sale tank! FT rules!

I keep a breeder tank, too, and move the babies to the sale tank to make room for more (if you are quick, you can get them out before the next set hatches).

I did a quick bit of math to figure out how many pregnant fish I can have in one tank and still get the max. number of babies -- at first, with no magic help, the fish tend to have one baby apiece, so you can have 10 pregnant fish in one tank to get the max. If you have a little bit of help (one magic fish of fertility, or the plant of fertility), then the fishies have two babies, and you can only have 6 or 7 fish in a tank (depends on whether or not you have a seahorse, or if the magic fish of fertility is one of the pregnant fish).

In the max case, when the fish can have up to three babies, you can only have 5 adult fish in the tank if you want maximum fry in the end.
