I have F/T on my I-touch, the health bar creeps up even with newborn babies, I'm sure I'm not over/under feeding them and I cannot see any diseases on babies.

What can I do? Is this a 'research environment' thing?

If you have not yet done the research, you will not be able to produce some of the more "rare" breeds. Keep earning cash and get all research done for "environment", then you will be able to get all the breeds to survive. Research "food" and feeding becomes easier. Finally, research "advertising" to help get the customers in the store for quicker sales. There are 3 levels of each. Good luck and enjoy!
