So I found myself a long demo (lasting for almost two weeks rather than an hour), and I played the game until my demo was up.

In my open and honest opinion, it was not all that entertaining. Yes, I might seem to be a little extra critical, but it is more because I am a demo player, than anything else. That means that a game needs to catch my attention in 15 minutes or LESS in order for me to continue playing. Regardless of this, because I wanted to give an opinion of the whole game, I played longer (much longer than I would have).

My Tribe was like a scaled down version of Virtual Villagers but seriously lacked VV's pizazz. Its simplicity felt like a game that I would give a young child to play. It required very little thinking on my part in order to maintain the island, the tribe, and to solve the mysteries. frown

The game lacked the intensity that time management activities would have provided. There wasn't any pressure to get anything done. They were easily fed and sheltered, and the clues to the mysteries were practically given to you. Everything was as simple as picking up the Stardust and Moondust off the ground. If you had them and used them, your people had to do very little work if any at all. Without the dusts I had to set my people on tasks. Granted, as soon as I set a tribe-member on a certain skill they would do it. However, if they were set to multiple tasks, they would either work for nearly 3 full seconds on a task and then rotate (and yes, I counted it with a timer), or just ignore one of the tasks I set for them. If I wasn't paying attention to how many tasks I set for each member, or just who was doing what, I could easily have twenty or more tribes-people wandering about the island, doing very little. frown

I could leave the game on for days and not touch it (did that one too) and there wasn't much chance of anything bad happening. tired Don't get me wrong, once when I did that, my fishers and farmers decided not to fish or farm because they were also checked off to do other work. Because of it, I found that one of my tribe-members had just died of starvation before I reopened the game.

The repetitiveness of the game was almost unbearable. tiredtiredtiredsleep The thought message at the top of the screen was often in my way and had nothing to do with how the game was going to play out, with the exception of when they were tired. I got wary of searching out crates and barrels (the only source of events in the game), and fishing newborn babies out of the ocean. cry

After playing this game, I am now on the side of letting the moms nurse for 2 years or whatever LDW sets it to next. I hated seeing newborn babies roaming around without care, especially swimming in the ocean unsupervised, and they weren't even useful in the game. Not to mention, once a mother had a child, you had to somehow know who she was for the game's next two years if you wanted her to have more kids. It was frustrating to try dropping men and women together only to discover that 'she's not ready yet'. crazy

I can go into more detail if someone wants me to, but I've already written more than I intended to in this first post.
