Yesterday, I tried out Virtual Villagers, and ended up buying the trilogy. I'm only working on the first game right now.

Last night, I left my village with two scientists, a healer, a couple kids, two builders, etc. I was hoping I'd earn enough tech points to unlock the second level of farming.

When I entered the village this morning, two villagers were dead(and I had no idea how to bury them). Also, all of their food was gone. My tech points had only gone up to a little over 4000, so I didn't have enough.

I started over, since I didn't think I could save the village before they all died, as the berries on the big bush were dwindling, with too few tech points at my disposal.

I imagine now I'll have to 'employ' more scientists, maybe three or four. Except that some villagers just can't seem to get it, no matter how often I plunk them before that table. Other villagers don't seem to be capable of anything, XD. I'll plunk them all over the place, but nothing sticks. Does setting their skill preference make any difference?

I was also wondering if children ever gather mushrooms on their own, or if I have to keep finding mushrooms for them to pick?

In the meantime, I've set the game at a slower speed, while I work things out. Poor little guys. No matter which virtual life game I play, I always get sentimental about my digital 'children.' XD

About your first tribe... did you pause your game and leave? confused

About your second tribe... You have to continuosly "plunk" the villager on the item you would like them to work on. smile It may seem like forever when you drag them on to the research table, the bush, or anything else and they don't work, but eventually they will start. smile The box at the bottom of your screen will say "This villagers has progressed in farming" or something like that. You will always need to drag a child on to a mushroom, they never do it by themselves, so keep your eyes peeled! laugh

Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy all 3! grin

The villagers will bury the dead all by themselves. grin

Admin edit: That's not exactly true in VV1. In VV1 you have to solve a puzzle first.

Thanks. smile

I never paused the game for that first tribe, but now I know I should have. When you set the game speed, you need to actually click Play for the setting to take effect, correct? It's that way for PT, so I assume it would be the same here.

But yeah, I left the game on normal speed and went to bed. Oops. :P "Oops" is a word I use very often, both on my computer and in real life! laugh

I hadn't yet gotten enough tech points to buy anything, so I guess that's why they didn't bury their dead, or maybe because I didn't drag anyone to the right place. Anyway, I did learn a few things by messing up, so hopefully starting over will go smoothly. I'm almost up to 5000 tech points now, so if all goes well I'll be able to reach the next level of farming before my little dudes starve to death. I'm going to try to solve this game before starting VV2, and the same with VV3. It will be sort of like reading the chapters in a long book! smile

You hit the spacebar to pause and unpause. smile So you did leave the game unpaused smirk , lol no worries, on my first game I forgot to hit the space bar button and the next morning my tribe was dead. blush Then, I learned about pausing your game. =o

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it, best wishes and good luck for your virtual villagers. laugh

Yeah, I liked it that way too!

Also, if you ever want to get some extra hints or tips check out The Guides section of the forums...it's the last section. (Sorry I can't make a link, my computer is being a bit difficult. laugh )

Good Luck and I'm glad to have you in the forums! smile
