I teach and I teach, however, the skills never adjust on the children. Is there a benifit for the children when they get taught? I know it improves the parenting skills for the parents?

It doesn't improve the children's skills in VV2! (it will in VV3)
They inherit some skills from their parents, if the parents are skilled enough, when they are born! smile

But it is a good way to train parents without getting too much population too soon.

A good way I like to train kids in VV2 is to make a stew to make people sick and then get the kids to heal them. It's quick and easy - you can get adept (or even master sometimes) doctors before they're 14.
