It's almost possible. With careful play you can solve all but one puzzle without any of the original villagers dying. I've done it many times. One of the puzzles, however, cannot be completed until after the first death.

The graveyard requires the death of one of your villagers in order to complete the puzzle. If you don't have a dead villager, there will be no graveyard. Look at Puzzle 7 in the spoilers. It's simply not possible to complete all the puzzles without anyone dying.
