Well it happen.
While playing another game on my Laptop, my nine year old grandson found VV3, the Secret City. The title got his attention. So, as any good Grannie, I asked his mum if he:
1. Had THE TALK (mum said yes) This means, does he know where babies come from.
2. After explaining the object of the game, could he play?
To both the answer was yes.
So, I started the game for my grandson.
First, he was quite upset that the sharks didn't eat people. I had to explain that this was a 'nice game.' He pointed out that in the 'real world, if people go into the water, sharks eat them.' So I had to explain that while this game was in real time, the sharks don't eat people, but he had to play the game to find out how to get rid of the sharks.
When he notice that no one wash their hands when 'nature calls or when they eat.' Again I had to explain on this island we make believe they wash their hands afterwards and before eating.
The 'kiss' really upset him. "that's not how babies are made, grannie! That mean when I kissed you, you should now have a baby in your arms. Babie grow in the mummies tummy and then are born."
"These people are so dumb! You have to keep telling what to do. Don't the kids go to school? Why don't the mummies and daddies hug their kids? Why don't the daddies kiss the mummies or bring them flowers? Why don't Grannies and Popas play with their grandbabies? Why don't they read or draw? Why don't the boys have boats and the girls dolls?"
Smart kid.
"All they eat is fruit and mushrooms until they get rid of the sharks? Grannie! crabs aren't kosher! No wonder they stay sick and skinny! They don't even have wheat for bread or an oven to bake in? What is wrong with these people!"
"My mummie carried my little brother in a pouch when he was nursing, why can't the mummie in the game carry their babie the same way?"
And where are the monkeys? They could raise sheep or goats. Where are the coconuts? And only people who are married to each other should go about kissing and having babies....
I took two headache tablets and gave him the address to LDW.
In the meantime, the next time my grandson comes over and wishes to play VV3, I am leaving him with Popa and going shopping.

I had a very similar set of questions to answer when I was first showing VV1 to my nine-year-old niece.

I can see the point in what he's saying, but I don't think that he understands that the game is meant for all ages, and therefore, they have no religion, and if he knows how babies are really made, then kissing is just the start.

My grandson and I had a very long talk as we played this game. I made him aware that Grannie doesn't share many of the values in this game. But the nice thing is you can find creatived ways to make the game fun. For exmaple, Grannie's villagers 'get married' before she lets anyone 'kiss.' Grannie keeps a family tree. Grannie makes sure that mummies and daddies tell stories to their children And whenever Grannie sees a villager with a crab, she has the villager throw it away.

He has been taught that babies begin, not with a kiss, but with the slipping on of a wedding band. He also knows a woman doesn't just 'appear' with a baby in his arms. His father was very clear on that point. I have also explained to him that since this is an non-religious game, Grannie interjects our morals and values. It made for a nice conversation where I was able to renforce the beliefs and teachings we hold dear and yet realize that not everyone shares them. And that it not our place to judge theirs.
Just as it is no one's place to judge ours.
My grandson @ nine years old is a computer whiz and is now trying to find a way to work weddings ans parnets 'showing some love (his words)' into Grannie's villages.
Pretty good for a nine year old 8I asked if he could throw birhtdays and Hanukkah in there too.b]

(I liked all of this post but just quoting a lil bit wink )

This sounds like a great way of bringing the family together, seeing as Villagers is a generational game it's most appropriate!

That's the best thing about the LDW games (and it's been summed up in this thread), they ARE appropriate for all - doesn't matter about age, background, religion, other beliefs....somehow, the people behind the games have made them fit for all...

So I'd just like to say laugh Thank You laugh to LDW!

No, it wasn't. They were the same suggestions I made concerning VV and was thrilled that my grandson felt comfortable to talk to me. It brought us closer together. And for that I say: THANK YOU LDW! laugh

My 4yr old grandson was spending the night with me,and when his mother brought him over i was playing VV3.The only thing he wanted to know is why the children couldnt fish.I told him they had to be 14 to work.He asked if he could put them in the water,so now every time he spends the night he wants to put the villagers in the ocean, and the bath.He just loves picking them up and putting them in the water. He also found they could harvest fruit. He plays games on his grandfathers laptop, and has WII.

Ha,I had weddings in my VV2,and I had the guy dressed in black and the girl in a white dress.I always have them by the gong with the totem poles around them.I also had funerals for elders and important people in the village.

I do the same in VV2 for weddings. The mosaic tile is also a nice place for a wedding.
