In one of my games (I already found all the magic fish and I'm gradually collecting all the species...) I've tried doing some experimenting with the Magic Fish of Mutation (wasp grouper) to see what sort of results I get.

I tried several "batches": random matchings, "perfect fish", even using the grouper itself to impregnate other fish, and so far none produced babies that I didn't expect.

Any ideas? what sort of results do others get?

That's how I'm doing the chemical tests right now, too.. .using a tank of perfect fish. Makes it easier to remember who is who!

I've only had a few changes from the Grouper, but the were changes to fish breed in a tank it was in, not breed by it.

My family thinks I'm NUTS! It's really hard to talk "fish" with people in the real world!

I know what you mean about family thinking youre nuts. Its almost like I'm afraid to discuss the fishies with them, but a lot of the time I cant help myself! I love this game. Do you know if any of the similar ones are any or as good?

I've been wondering if Plant Tycoon is as good. I assume is IS 'Good' because it's LDWs, but "AS" good???? I just don't seem myself sitting watching plants grow the way I love watching the fish grow. I know, though, that if I burn out on this one, I'll try the plants and maybe some of their other!

LOL,
My Fiancé told me that if I start to literally watch the virtual grass grow for fun, he's having me committed!

Back to the Mutation -

Does the fish cause any mutation? Will even having one in the tank upset my ivestigation of the combinations that create fish?

Will the Species history reflect the mutation or will it show the history as it was supposed to be that way?

I have one but will sell it if it's going to mess up my breeding charts, which I am filling in by observation and note taking, no spoilers.

Thanks

Yeps, having the fish in a tank will change the results of some of the fish breed in that tank, and throw off breeding charts.

He's a fun guy to have around if you are looking for new fish, but not if you are trying to figure out the breeding sequences.

Actually, it doesn't really throw off the breeding chart efforts.

What I've generally seen with the Magic Fish of Mutation is that the mutations are fewer than what you see when using the Unknown Chemical from the store. Out of an entire tankful of babies, you might see only one or two mutations - for instance, one of the babies might have a different fin type. The interesting thing about the mutations that you do get is that, when you examine the mutated fish using the Species button, it will list the parents that would have produced that offspring - not the actual parents that produced the mutated fish. So, if you're keeping track of breeding results, that can be useful information.

YES!

At least, I think a cheer is in order. The species diplay shows what the parents SHOULD have been to make the fish that results? So observation by tracking the species display will provide true information?

If so, I'm doing the right thing! 134 down, ? to go!

Thanks.

It is killing me. I keep a excel sheet to keep track of the fish I've bread and the results. When I have an empty cell on the spreadsheet, I mate the two fish so I can record the result, and put a check mark in the empty cell, indicating that I have bread for this result. Then when I go through the babies, I can’t find any that I bread for this result! Waaaaaaaaaaaaa! I thought I was going crazy at first, until I realized what was happening. Oh well, keeps me on my toes I suppose.
